Yes because draft position means everything...

Remember, at one point no one wanted Martin St. Louis either. Players develop at different ages. Darche has paid his dues in the minors and is developing into a great depth player. Darche has been a very useful player for the habs this year, always working and going to the net and he has been rewarded so far with 9 goals. You need a guy like Darche willing to do the dirty work on the team.

Too bad the hockey gods didn't deem fit to injure Moen instead...

I thought he was a solid 13th forward and expendable at the beginning of the season. Now I see him as at least a #10, #11-12 on a solid team. He's a great player and we need to re-sign him. Diamond in the rough.

I hope it's not true, would be a huge blow. Darche has been huge for us this year, and has been one of the more consistent forwards when you take everything into account.

Either way I want him back next year.

Sad but can be replaced. Especially with a 3rd-4th line grinder ala Neil or Clarkson...

Where's the flower brigade who told me injuries would not be an issue this year?

Replacing Darche with White is a downgrade...and they don't play the same role at all. The last 2 years Darche has 14 goals in 78 games with mostly 3rd and 4th line ice, valuable bottom 6 guy. White had 3 AHL goals in 33 games so a huge downgrade offensively.

If White would replace somebody based on need it should be Eller(maybe needs 10-15 AHL games) or Pyatt(works hard but not physical enough).

No one said there wouldn't be injuries. People said just by having less injuries we'd be a better team. Our injury plagues haven't been as bad as last year where we had 6-7 regulars our of the lineup at once. We've had 2 out and just recently Cammalleri and we've been doing(surprise, surprise) better than last year.

On to Darche. I liked him, but no offense, I couldn't stand seeing him on the powerplay anymore when we have more dangerous forwards. Put Pouliot or Andrei on the PP make them gain a bit of confidence in their abilties because a confident Andrei or a confident Pouliot is much more beneficial to the team offensive wise than a Mathieu Darche.

Adding Darche to the PP is not just about skill, he is big(215-220lbs) and is good at screening the goalie plus has the hands to finish. Having a top PP is not just about having 5 players dipsy doodling, you also need some "dirty goals" at times.

Not really...Darche has a 600k cap hit and combined they make almost 5 mil 2+2.67.

The draft has nothing to do with it. Darche was one of the better bargains in the NHL for a bottom 6 forward at 600k. The last 78 games(last 2 years) he has 14 goals, that's pretty damn good playing 10-12 minutes a game.

Man poor guy... I hope he gets a contract next year somewhere else if he is in fact out... chances are good that might have to play in Europe.

Hope I'm wrong and the habs sign him to 1 more year at ~750k

Why would he have to play in Europe? To me it should be a no brainer that the Habs sign him for 1-2 years for 700-900k. He makes a very good bottom 6 guy...works hard, scores clutch goals and has a good attitude.

I hope we re-sign him, but finding a band-aid 3rd line player is do-able.

Moen has been playing good hockey lately. I think the Datche injury just gave White a perminent job with the Habs, and that my friends is a very, very good thing

well, he's 34, and if he is out for the rest of the year, and requires a lot of rehabilitation or if it's a severe injury, than his health status can negate all the good he's done till now. Injuries are the wosrt thing for a ufa like darche, unless we're talking about a broken Toe or ribs (something easy to recover from).

It's not only his opinion but the opinion of many around here. Because Darche is important to the team we are in trouble? Please.

Being happy that a player like Darche is injured ? I know you don't mean it that way... but that what is sounds like...

Unless he has a career threatening injury the Habs would probably re-sign him. He's been very good in his role the last year and a half.
