He probably asked to be released because he wants to play. I mean, he hasn't played since october and as along as he is under contract with the Canucks, he isn't going to play anywhere.

If some teams (maybe in the AHL or in the ECHL) are interested to sign him, he has to be released from his SPC before he can join another team.

It's just speculation but this situation might be similar to what happened to JD Watt from the Calgary Flames. Watt asked to be released because he thought that he wasn't getting enough playing time with Abbotsford. Some thought that it would be a suicide move for his career since he was basically a bordeliner AHL/ECHL player, but finally he got a tryout contract with San Antonio and that happened to be a good move for his career.

Good.

Giving our scouts extra contract slots has looked a lot like giving them extra draft picks recently.

I'll never understand why Lou signed him to a two year deal. The difference in our record in games with Peters compared to games without Peters was staggering.

Lou's done some "odd things" with respect to contracts since the lockout. Before the lockout, he was a genius.

He's a Canuck? Wasn't he fairly highly regarded a few years back?

Looks like his rookie season was decent, but other than that...

Interesting. Looks like he decided to retire instead of reporting to Manitoba. Odd.

Why would he report to Manitoba when he's no longer apart of the organization? Manitoba doesn't have room for him anyway.

I think this was decided before that. Sounds like after the situation with the Amerks, the Canucks asked him if he would go to Manitoba. He opted to retire instead, and the Canucks placed him on waivers for the purposes of mutual release from his contract.

From what I heard is that the Moose weren't able to carry him because they have too many veterans as it is and that's why him and Paestch were assigned to Rochester. And even after the situation with the Amerks it was still the same scenario.

This was not the type of waivers for movement purposes - this was the type of waivers for mutual release purposes. i.e. He's gone.

I don't think there's a veteran limit on the roster, is there? Only on the number you can dress?

That's probably where the part about him playing a minor role comes in.

That's what I was saying. A poster was saying he wasn't going to report to Manitoba after the Amerks situation. Which is just a clusterfark there anyway.

Can only dress 6 in a game, but no limits on how many they can carry and given that Shirokov now takes up one of those spots. Hesigner I believe had something to say about who he wanted in his lineup because he has guys under contract as well.

Not that I really care about fodder that came over in the Ballard deal.

Yeah, according to his agent that's what happened.

Quote:
His agent, Steve Bartlett of Pittsford-based Sports Consulting Group, said the Vancouver Canucks had asked Peters to report to the Manitoba Moose. But, having played only two games with the Amerks in October, and realizing his role would be very limited, he has decided to move on with life after hockey.
