Lupul was a fine player here. Before that goofball Hatcher nearly took his head off, he was playing really well.

When he came back from the concussion and whiplash, it took him time to get his game back. I likened his situation to that of RJ Umberger. RJ's game didn't come back for quite some time after he was on the receiving end of the Brian Campbell hit back in the playoffs of '05-'06. For some reason, everyone was more forgiving with regards to Umberger, but people were merciless with Lupul.

And yes, I'll admit that he's overpaid, but only by $750,000. There are others in the league who are way more overpaid and have done less than Lupul has

Lupul floated a massive amount after his injury. He didn't look like he was even a player at some points on the ice. Umberger always hustled. Always

Always thought he was garbage. Then I watched him play his first game in Toronto and that just gave my feelings a little more validity.

He and Zherdev are very similar players, Lupul has a little more work ethic which is scary, but he misses a couple shifts a game and then shows you how good he could be, very frustrating.
