Thanks. It can get frustrating, we have dealt with the frustration over the last few seasons. But I wouldn't give up just yet, there is still a lot of hockey to be played before the playoffs. And with how close it is no one is a lock to get in or be out of it. (Well except the Oilers)

Kind of half paid attention to the game, but it was a fun 3rd period. Boys came out strong and generally played well.

I almost liked the idea of Cullen between Havlat and Bouchard, but it only happened once. Clutter has no business in the top six. Same with Miettinen. Yeah he gets a goal every 5-10 games, but that's not good enough. Loved Koivu's intensity, even if I wonder if he's hurt or out of shape because he's been behind the play so much of this year.

And Bruno racing for that puck with the EN...good lord I was dying!

Clutter was very off his game last night. Had a few bigger hits along the way but other than that it seemed like he was pulling up a bit more than usual.

Thought the Spurgeon - Barker pairing played an all-around strong game last night. Barker seems like he's finally coming along and willing to use his body more in front of the net. He's still got that big dopie defenseman look as he tries to track the puck and his man behind the net, though. Spurgeon had a few very nice moments last night. Even a bigger(ish) hit which was nice to see.

Seemed like Burns had a friend in the penalty box or something...

Strong game from Backs even if the two he did allow were a little soft for him.

Yeah Spurge's hit was great and hilarious. Barker though, I don't ever see his good games as "he's turning it around", more like he had a good game and will inevitably have a bad game soon. I just don't see anything in him that says he's better than a sixth/seventh defenseman. Hell, Stoner is a better skater, more physical, and moves the puck better, and he makes league minimum. Spurgeon is a better skater, has better positioning, and moves the puck better and he's a tyke. And so on.

Trying to find the little things...

At this point, any progress anywhere in his game is a plus in my book. He's been that bad.

I disagree about Barker last night. Every game I go to, I pick a handful of players to zone into and watch. Barker/Spurgeon and Nystrom/Madden were my two sets last night.

I left the game with the impression of; "OMG if Spurgeon hadn't bailed Barker out about 30 different times, it would have been a blow out."

Spurgeon had that big hit right in front of where I was sitting. I swear to god he looked at Barker right after with this intense glare which basically said; "Dude, if you didn't suck, I wouldn't have risked a near boarding call. If I were bigger than 5'6", that is what it would have been..."

Madden is trying to be a d-man when he's on the ice. That's fine, that is what he is paid to do. Nystrom... Man, he makes a difference on this team, but it comes down to pure intangibles on and off the ice. He is probably the most snake-bitten player I've ever witnessed. Even his shots take these crazy bounces/deflections...

Oh yeah, that "Fox Mo" of Madden's shot...HOLY SHNIKIES. Love it. Textbook snapper, great to see that stick flex, and puck was just RULER flat.

Clutter seemed to be slightly off his game a little bit about halfway through the first. He started great, had a few nicely timed hits...

I don't remember the Avs player, but behind the play... Clutter got slashed pretty hard and then cross checked in the back of the head. He was trying to go for a line change.

After that, he just seemed slightly off.

i don't know if it's just overall positivity because of the team performance, but I am appreciating Madden's play more and more as the season wears on. Kind of the opposite of what i was expecting--i haven't been a madden detractor at all this year but from what other people had said i was expecting him to fade as the season progressed.

His line started off with just horrible plus-minus compared to the rest of the crew. After a couple months he started scoring the occasional clutch goal and getting his ice time limited (along with Nystrom), especially even strength. Putting them on the fourth line was a nice move.

You seem to be really good at calling up stats and i think you've done it before but could you whip up a GF/GA per TOI? just curious to see how all of this translates.

He's doing exactly what a 37 year old, $1 million per year, 4th line center should be doing. No complaints from me about Madden at all.

Budai didn't get a penalty for leaving his crease, as he was just "pulling people apart" or some nonsense; Backs very likely would have gotten the extra minor, though. That would have given the Avs a 2-man advantage, and frankly that almost certainly would've sent the game to OT. Plus we can't risk Backs getting injured right now.

It would have made great spectacle, but he absolutely made the smart decision.

Thanks for bringing that up.

How the **** did the Wild get the extra penalty when Budaj was the third man in??? Seriously. It happens EVERY scrub, the Wild get the extra penalty.

Backs would have gotten delay of game for crossing the red line I believe, not worth it.

Also, that ****** bag Budaj kept sticking his stick out trying to trip up Wild forecheckers. What a knob.

we used to think it was the Boogaard effect, but clearly there is something else going on. Timmy T and Price both received a "leaving the crease" penalty. I can't figure out why Budaj wouldn't have got something similar.

Actually that's a good point.

Quote:
27.6 Leaving Goal Crease – A minor penalty shall be imposed on a goalkeeper who leaves the immediate vicinity of his crease during an altercation. In addition, he shall be subject to a fine of two hundred dollars ($200) and this incident shall be reported to the Commissioner for such further disciplinary action as may be required. However, should the altercation occur in or near the goalkeeper’s crease, the Referee should direct the goalkeeper to a neutral location and not assess a penalty for leaving the immediate vicinity of the goal crease. Equally, if the goalkeeper is legitimately outside the immediate vicinity of the goal crease for the purpose of proceeding to the players’ bench to be substituted for an extra attacker, and he subsequently becomes involved in an altercation, the minor penalty for leaving the crease would not be assessed.
I'm pretty damn sure Budaj was in the corner facewashing and hugging on to somebody, and he wasn't assessed a penalty:

Scoresheet

It's a complete load. Three Wild players got roughing, two Avs, yet all five were tangled up AND Budaj was in there too. Should have been a Wild PP, not an Avs PP. But we always seem to get screwed in those situations.
