Let's not forget that Ribeiro is far from being a pure blood Quebecois. He is portuguese and grew in the plateau Mont-Royal. His family had no big money and he had to sell drugs in the QHJML to make enough money to go on. He partys late, cheates his wife and looks tired all the time. So about him being a punk...yes he his, but I don't care.

Every night in 2003-2004 he played. He played every single game even if he's only 175 pounds in a monster size world. He ran the show for the first 20 games or so when Koivu wasn't there. He speaks french and english to the medias and the kids and that's making him so much more close to the people.

It's the first time we have two good centers in a long time, I'm certain they are happy of that. Especially when the defensive trio is playing against Ribeiro and Koivu has more space and vice-versa.

Good post, but from what I heard, Ribeiro has become a more mature person. I'd say he was a nice surprised last year, I can only hope he learns what intensity means.

You are using race as the desiding factor.

If you are an english boss and you pick only the english workers instead of french, this IS racism. ( remember those years )

So what's you point ? it's not racism if you do it, but look out if it's done to you !!!

bye the way calling me names, does nothing for your arguement.
Giving the Habs an identity !! yea sure a racist idendity.
The place for race is in international play only, where it's not called racism but national pride. Unless you are also telling everyone that only white franco "pur laine" are welcome to the Habs.

Any player that truly gives his all every game, fights his heart out for the Habs, when in pain still demands to go on the ice, this is the guy I want. Not because he is franco but because he has given his heart to the Habs and race has abslutely nothing to do with this. Or are you stating that franco's have more heart then all other people in the world, so lets give the Habs a "french heart"

D'abord, ne me répond pas en anglais ostie de gros "frog colonisé".

Si tu prends au sérieux les propos tenus à 110%, tu es un gros con !

Dommage que tu sois un partisan des CanadiEns (avec un E, pas un A !)

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting more Quebec players, with the obvious caveat that all else is equal. AS and TT have done alright with looking a little harder at the Q, but it is annoying when a Bergeron gets passed over.

I don't really care much about signing Quebec FAs unless they want to play here. AS did a pretty good job at that with Perreault, Juneau, and Quintal, who were very important in making the transition from the Houle disaster to a young-ish team near the playoffs.

I think it's a fine approach so long as it remains guided first and foremost by hockey decisions.

Any competent scout should have known that Patrice Bergeron was a much better hockey player than Corey Urquhart and I can't believe BG and TT decided to pick the latter just because he was a bit taller and bigger.

On the other hand , Bergeron was born in Ancienne-Lorette near Quebec city and as a kid he grew up as a rabid Nordique fan who hated the Habs more than any other NHL team.

We, as franco Habs fans, would love to have more talented and gutsy francos on the team, just like the good ol' days. But reality is not the same anymore. You didn't have the euros in the 40's to late 80's. Besides, there aren't as many solid franco NHLer anymore. At least, not playing in our backyard.
D. without reading the next few pages,[they'll have a negative effect on my colon], I agree. The legend of the CH which I assume has made the non Quebec posters into Hab fans more or less, is a never say die,win at all costs and do it with style attitude that grew out of the early years and became what it is today with the Rocket. The nature of the legend is personified and identified with Quebecers. It's what I grew up with. The more talented francos on the team the better. The problem is that it isn't as aeasy now, though it may be easier with the new CBA. Also, the way sports is analyzed, with the proliferation of competing media outlets, it becomes a different kind of story. One thing about the Mtl. crowd is they appreciate honest effort and talent whether you're from Magog or Norway [but not Hawaii]. You want to place your product well, you need some local heroes, but not at a ridiculous cost.

I didn't read through the entire thread but I think the best thing the Canadiens can do is stock the team with Canadian players and then fill the holes with Europeans/Americans.
