On Wednesday morning, Nashville Predators coach Barry Trotz talked about how far the franchise had come in its 12 NHL seasons and how much farther it wanted to go. No longer, he said, was this a small-market team that might move to a bigger city. No longer, he said, was this just a nice efficient operation that could draft and develop players but couldn’t keep them. No longer, he hoped, was this simply a scrappy bunch that could make the playoffs but couldn’t win a round.
“It’s not about survival,” said Trotz, who has been with the Predators since the beginning. “It’s about winning Stanley Cups now.”
So what happens if the team goes one and done yet again?

The quote that concerns me is this one:
Quote:
Weber, a pending restricted free agent, said Wednesday that he and the Predators had decided to wait until after the season to discuss his contract. “Hopefully, we win here, and we’ll go from there,” Weber said.
Yeah I didn't take the Weber quote as negative, just that they don't want the contract to be a distraction from trying to win. I think that making moves for guys like Fisher will make it easier to get Weber signed.
Poile tires to find more parts this summer and they come back and try it again next year.
it will infuriate everyone but blowing the team up and sucking massively for two or three years isnt really an option
I'm not saying we need to blow anything up if we don't advance, only that there has to be a point where more is demanded and there's some accountability, a point where no excuse is good enough for a first round exit.
I just hope they don't already know that they are $X apart in the money and the Preds said "If we win a couple playoff rounds we will get up to your number". That would be ugh... Of course, I'm sure that isn't it.
But if Shea wants to walk because he and Suter and Rinne can't win in the playoffs with the decent forwards we have, I say I'm fine with the Preds taking the draft picks instead of way overpaying to convince him to stay.
I don't see what you guys are seeing in that quote.
He doesn't say, we'll see if we can win, then I'll see if I can stay.
He's just saying right now, the focus is on winning games, they'll take care of the rest after that. How many times does he have to say he wants to be here? How many times do the owner need to say they have the money to pay him or he's not going anywhere.
Personally, I'm not seeing anything at all alarming in the quote. But speculating on what if. To me it sounds as if they'll see if they can work something out after the season.
The thing that bothers me the most about the quote is the 8000 Weber to X team for trash threads that will pop up. Any team that offers up 4 first rounders for him I think we would take it if the contract is over 7.5 million. And honestly, I don't know if any GM will knuckle up and pay it.

Those were going to start anyway, just sucks it had to be one of our own to start it...
Can we start starting threads about Doughty being a RFA then?
that should become a game for us here. for every weber trade proposal, make a new thread with the exact same deal. maybe have ten pred fans making the same trade proposals until they stop

I'm in. Won't always be quick because of my schedule but I'll do it. Who should we have on the list?
You guys had better sticky your last couple posts. Because if you do this, for rest of the days of HFBoards, whatever you say someone will go ad hominem and pull up your proposals to say "look how stupid Nashville fans are, they thought Doughty was leaving for XXX!", or "Yeah, you're so bright, remember what you wrote about Stamkos being moved, back in 2011? LOLZ MAROON!".
So when it happens you may want a link to this thread to remind folks it was all a deliberate scam.

Or I can put up legitimate proposals so I don't look like a an ultra maroon....lol.
True. How subtly and believably it's done would make all the difference. You need the value to be just enough off to highly offend fans of the team who think you are saying they are too cheap (or too poorly run) to pay for their own stars.
Can I play? I probably can't start threads, but I can add "analysis" as needed.
Some fun candidates might be Ryan Callahan, Bryan Boyle, Kyle Okposo, TJ Oshie, and Keith Yandle.
