Let's see, let's draft well, develop players, develop a system that puts our guys in the playoffs consistently but we know nothing of hockey.

Oh wait, that's right, I grew up watching how that was done in the late 70's watching the Islanders turn their franchise into a dynasty. Oh wait, I was also a fan of the Canadiens for years before becoming a Preds fan. I got to watch guys like Robinson, Langway, LaFleur, Carbonneau, Chelios, Roy, etc winning Cup after Cup but then again, I'm just a dumb American who knows nothing about hockey.

Guess I'll just sit here and watch as my intelligence is insulted post after post of dumb trade proposals which would never happen in reality but then again, I guess there are some places in the NHL where there are fairy tale never neverlands where hockey takes place and silly trade offers ACTUALLY happen.
Oh hey, another fan with an inferiority complex when it comes to talking about the Leafs.

Your post reeks of disdain for the Toronto Maple Leafs, thats pretty cool, but if you think your the only one on the boards who has seen the Canadians win the Stanley Cup you should give your head a shake old timer.

Edit -- Just so we're clear, there are just as many Leafs fans who wish the proposals would stop, but it's hard to unify a fanbase as large as ours.
Fair enough. Didn't mean to lump the good with the bad but how many proposals are there going to be for Weber or Suter or anyone on our team that is just way out of whack? I needed lunch. Much better now.

On a different note, do you think Burke has what it takes to turn the Leafs around?

I really hope the proposals stop, because you're right, we don't have the assets (or assests we are willing to part with) to land players like Suter, Weber, Bogosian, B. Schenn, Tavares, etc. I think there are alot of younger fans who post proposals without considering the value for the 2nd team in the trade, but hey you're only an enthusiastic young hockey fan once, and the Leaf bashing is getting really old.

On the subject of Burke, I believe he has made some calculated risks, some have paid off, some have not. I don't hate the Kessel deal, but I don't think it will look good for Toronto until Burke can get him a #1 center, and they aren't exactly growing on trees. With our depth on the blueline (roster and prospects), and in goal, I think we are just a few large offensive pieces away from being a threat in the East in a couple years.

Thats alot to give up for another Defenceman, I think our biggest holes are upfront right now, and if Burke is going to move this many assets in a deal, I think it will be to address our offence.

Quality over quantity. Giguere, Lashoff, and Sjostrom all suck.

Not true. Giguere is a solid playoff/2nd string goalie, Lashoff is a solid D prospect, and Sjostrom is a great 2nd PK winger, plus those picks, prospect and Kaberle

I totally agree with you, Weber is a premier defenceman and he's still young. I think you could absolutely get a better package for him. My point though was from a Leafs perspective, and making trades for players that address our needs.

But why trade that 1st (likely a 5 to 10 overall) in a draft that is going to be ripe with defenceman? Our blueline is going to be fine in a couple of years, even without Kaberle.

Phanuef - Aulie
Schenn - Gardiner
Komisarek - Blacker

Lashoff wouldnt play for Nashville yet but for Millwauke, Sjostrom is you really want to can play 4th line, and Giguere you could trade him for a 2nd or 3rd round pick depending on the team

Not really. I a team is desperate enough for a goalie (ex. New Jersey, New York Islanders, Ottawa) could get you a 3rd, maybe a 2nd

If anyone was offering a 2nd for Giguere, the Leafs would have traded him already. With his contract, he is nearly impossible to move.... we'll see. I also don't believe that Ottawa or the Islanders would be in the market for a high priced rental goalie at this point.

New Jersey would also have no interest in adding Giguere with the way things have been going there in the last Month... don't think if it would be viable for them to bring in a 6 million dollar goalie anyway.

Realistically, the only teams which may have an interest at the deadline would be Tampa, Philly, Detroit, or SJ?

I keep seeing this and yet when I check ice time he is 4th on the team among the forwards. He is 2nd in PP time for forwards so it kind of looks like he gets more than 3rd line ice.

And? He deserves it. Besides, he will get full time minutes in Nashville because he will instantly be in the top 5 best forwards in Nashville's roster.

Not to mention Fisher and Lombardi (when he comes back)

The offers for Weber, jokes or not, were hilarious.

I wouldn't take much offense to Nashville fans disliking Toronto or folks who come across as arrogant hockey fans out of Canada/Northern United States. We spent a lot of time hearing how we don't deserve a hockey team, and that it should be moved, by people from those areas. Warranted or not, it's just a natural reaction from a lot of us.
