My apologies for my post if it came off sounding as a troll, which it does look like looking back on it. I don't mean that Americans have traits of being players that lack anything. So I'm not lumping them all together, but we have enough. I want some Canadian talent on my team.

As a Leaf fan, i can only wish such a thing could happen.

I see no reason for Philly to do this though, if they really wanted Versteeg, there would be cheaper ways to getting him.

Easily one of the more ignorant posts in HF history. If management has the same thinking, that's probably why you haven't won a Cup in 44 years. You should trying finding players based on their talent levels rather than their nationalities.

Would love to have Versteeg in Philly, though I'd prefer they bring in some size, but, there is no chance in hell of JvR getting moved.

And really the Flyers are looking to add another winger, not so much upgrade on who they have. I wouldn't expect anyone from their starting lineup to be shipped out.

I am no longer commenting on trades that concern the leafs.

In the piece is suggests that JVR is a person who Burke loves

but a Versteeg staight for JVR? No more comments about leaf trades--pretty sure I have used up all browny points with mods and admins

That's fine, but I never understood the drive people have for having native players on their teams. I can understand the allure of hometown boys, but nationalism seems like a strange thing for local sports teams. The goal is to win for Toronto, not for Canada. Nationalities should be irrelevant to that mission.

You missed the point. No one mentioned Versteeg's age. But someone implied that JVR is some kind of underachiever/bust. JVR is still very young and he's likely to get better with time.

Are you implying that there's something inherent in Canadians that makes them better players?

What about a Penner or Hemsky for JVR trade?

Yeah this is my point. It wouldn't hurt us to get some good Canadian talent on this team.

I don't see a need for Penner/Hemsky on the Flyers. They're not exactly short on firepower. I think they just need to supplement their existing forward lineup with someone who is solid defensively and can take some PK time off of Richards/Giroux/Carter.

The Flyers are not going to break up the chemistry of their team right now. If they move anything, it will be a pick or prospect for someone like Dustin Penner. I could see them going after Versteeg -- maybe even offering a 1st or 2nd rounder -- but they will not move JVR for him.

Yeah. But those are good Canadians. The ones we can get our hands on are mostly going to be 3rd liners. Do you want 3rd line Canadians playing your 1st line? (I know Bozak's playing our "1st/2nd" line and he's a 3rd liner, but that's beside the point).

The Flyers don't have the cap space for next season to add another 4+ mil contract.

I would do a Versteeg/JVR swap in a second as a Leafs fan, but I have to think the Flyers laugh at this offer. Versteeg is an awesome 3rd liner, but he does not in any way have the upside of a JVR.
