A Steady 3rd Pairing Defenseman to NYR

A big weakness of the Rangers the past few weeks has been their 3rd pairing, Matt Gilroy in particular. The Rangers could do themselves some good by adding a veteran 3rd pairing type guy to solidify the defensive core.

Now, again, this is a thread for a 3rd pairing guy. No Kaberle, Brewer, Pitkanen, etc.

Fire away.

Stuart out of Boston seems like a good fit

Jimmy Vandermeer.

He's been very underrated for the Oilers this year. I'd love it if the Oilers re-signed him, but it'd be tough to say no to a deal. Something similar to what Staios got(AHLer/fringe NHLer and a 3rd) would do it.

I'd love to sign Shane O'Brien this offseason. As far as right now, I think Greene from LA would be a nice fit but I don't know what LA would want for him. Maybe Allen form Florida for a mid-level pick and a prospect? He'd be solid. I really like Byran Allen as a defender.

What would you give up for Steve Montador? He's been very, very solid this year and would in great on a 3rd pairing.

Mcquaid seems to have taken his spot in the line-up, so I would imagine a mid round pick or prospect would get it done.

Well, Ryan Bourque could be moved for a player like that..Ray Bourque's son, and he's actually a good prospect.

Montador would be a good fit. Veteran presence, hard point shot, respectable offensively. Could also fill in on the top-4.

Maybe a 2nd and a project prospect.

Montador is RH, though, and we already have Girardi, Sauer, Eminger, and Gilroy who are all RH. Can he play LD?

Probably a mid round pick but preferably a veteran center. Not too familiar with your lineup, do you have an Arnott-like player?

waaaay to much for that guy, Rangers need a PP QB and if they go on the cheaper end how about Foster from EDM instead?

Gilroy and a mid round pick is all I would offer though

I'd guarantee that most Oilers fans would think Gilroy+mid-rounder is more than generous.

A 2nd might be a little steep, but Vandermeer has been very good for us this year. Decently reliable defensively, jumps into the rush a bit, he's physical and he fights. Keep in mind what team he's playing for, and he's been covering for Foster since he's came back from his injury.

LOl nice, in all reality the rangers have a good number of puck moving d-men so any one of them that the rangers are willing to give up that are fairly young would get it done. Or just a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I would do Gilroy + 3rd, or Gilroy + Bourque + 4th.

We actually don't have many legitimate puck movers, although all of our top-4 dmen are adequate in that facet.
