Maybe they offer him a coaching position....Keep Miller happy, allow Enroth to take a few games, and and not feel like we are automatically going to lose.

That's what I was hoping for after last season, I think Chainshot also mentioned it. That seems to be the best of both worlds. Maybe Lalime will take a conditioning stint again like last year, who knows. Portland doesn't play until the weekend so it made more sense to grab Jhonas now

I don't want to make him a goalie coach just because Miller is friends with him.

If he's any good at it, fine, but if not then just let him go.

Ease of travel from Portland. + Portland's schedule.

I'd rather him be the goalie coach because Miller is friends with him than be the backup goalie because Miller is friends with him.

If its only one start, call him up in the massive block of time before the Manchester game. It's not like he'd be playing back to back to back starts or anything.

Maybe Ruff didn't think we needed a legit backup, and yesterday's game changed his mind?

I wonder if Lalime will be sent to Portland on a conditioning assignment. Even if he has to pass waivers, he will.

I am also getting sick of hearing "we need to keep Lalime around to keep Miller happy. We need Goose around to keep Miller happy." This guy is needy but I guess that is for another thread.

IIRC, Miller mentioned a few times Lalime's instruction and tips. It makes sense, really. Lalime's not the most talented goaltender ever, so he succeeded by knowing the basics and mastering strategy (I assume- I never really saw him play in his prime).

I've thought this too, but on the other hand, he's making $600,000 to sit on the bench and open the door, so I find it hard to feel too sorry for him.

Pro sports can be a tough business. If he can't perform adequately and has become a waste of a roster spot, he should be waived as soon as a replacement (eg. Enroth) is ready.

You know what would make me happy if I were Miller? A winning team in front of me.

Lalime should be waived/bought out/whatever, and never seen another game in a Sabres jersey, unless we're going for a top five pick. In that case, make him the starter.

I wondered that during the All Star break (and for Butler too).

Maybe he was offered and declined?

Just to point out, a conditioning assignment does not require waivers, only the consent of the player being assigned.

How can you feel sorry for any professional athlete unless they suffer a life-changing injury. It takes most people a decade to make what Lalime will make in one year.
Even if Enorth gets bombed against Habs, I applaud the move.

No one ever wants to feel unwanted and useless, which has to be some of what Lalime is feeling.

In that respect, I do feel badly for him -- no one should ever have to feel like that.

That being said, I think I could endure feeling unwanted and useless if I was making the cash he is. I think.

It also doesn't open up a roster spot. They probably put Montador on IR. If Montador is healthy, they have to send a player down. Paul Byron is obvious victim.
