If I'm Toronto I accept that deal immediately.

Not arguing with you here. The Leafs biggest need is a playmaking centre, I think we all realize that. BUT in regards to the value in this trade proposal, the Leafs would be foolish not to take Hanzal for Versteeg and Monster.

I doubt Burke does this deal.

The value is there for sure.

The thing is, Versteeg is one of the few trading chips the Leafs have with value. If we are going to trade him, then it ideally happens as part of a package that brings in a guy that can play on the top line.

Is RW's future secure?

Are you comparing Pitsburgh to Toronto?

I'd say no because the Coyotes don't need another goalie, and Hanzal does a good job shutting down the star centers in the Pacific, which is invaluable for a defensive-minded team.

You never know. Burke has always talked highly about him, and has never blamed him for any of the Leafs problems, so it sounds like it.

Trades aren't made based on some arbitrary "value". Versteeg is more valuable to the Leafs than Hanzal would be... it's really as simple as that. If Hanzal has more open market value, then find a 3-way trade that works for the Leafs. Reality is -- unless Versteeg can yield a big LW (or playmaking centre) that could reasonably be expected to fit with Kessel and help get him going, it doesn't make sense to trade him. If Versteeg can't yield that, Toronto has to figure out what they have that can get that type of player.
