Didn't Gillis make a comment a week or two back alluding to our style of play being conducive to more d-men injuries?

Yes because they always try to make a play instead of chipping it off the glass.

i believe burrows can also play in nets. seems i hear that in the past, maybe a couple of years ago, altho there was no mention of his expertise as a goalie.

Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault said Burrows would have a CT scan this afternoon and then see if he can go.

“We think he should be (able to play),” said Vigneault. “The X-rays we took at home (after Saturday's game) were negative, but we're going to get a CT scan here just to rule everything out. If that looks good it's just a matter of managing a little bit of pain and he should be fine."

Burrows looked pretty good out there after blocking that shot.

Whether or not he was running off pure adrenaline is beyond me, but I won't say anything about it. I jinx these things to hell.

Yeah - "If Burrows can't play the Canucks will play a man short tonight against the Blues."

I still can't figure out why Lee Sweatt isn't on LTIR. That would give us the cap room to bring somebody up.

Uh oh, the AV touch of death. Anytime he weighs in on an injury it scares me....

"Oh god, Alain, Kesler just got a stick that impaled him through the stomach! It's.....oh god, it's sticking out of his back....."

"It's all about managing the pain, he'll be fine."

If we put him on LTIR we can't send him down before the trade deadline. That creates a huge problem as he would either have to sit out the rest of the year regardless of his health (not a very good thing for a young player that's still developing) or he would be on the roster and continuing to take up cap space and a roster spot further complicating things.

No further damage revealed. Burrows will try to play.

Ugh, you're right, he got hurt at the worst possible time - just inside the 24-day LTIR limit before the deadline on the 28th. If he'd been hurt in the last game he played, he could've gone on LTIR and been off in time, but the injury happened four days later and two outside the window.

Well, we're screwed if anyone else gets a short-term injury, then. Tanev's $900k cap hit might have to go down for somebody cheaper if we need the extra couple hundred thousand for another body.

The timing of Lee's injury is very unfortunate (for the team's cap concerns anyway). Hopefully he can recover quickly so he can be sent down.

Did Hamhuis join the team for the road trip?

We might see Ballard go on LTIR if need be. It might keep him out a few days longer than necessary, but that beats icing a short or inferior roster for a couple of weeks.

Yeah, and that'd still get Ballard back in time for the long Pacific road trip. But hopefully we'll just get out of this one with no more injuries.

The problem is once Ballard goes on he is lost for 24 days/10 games and his LTIR exception space used must be purely temporary or he will be stuck on LTIR.

He's expected to miss 3 weeks at a minimum, so at worst he'd have to sit out a few extra days to comply with LTIR.

Obviously they'd only need the space temporarily until guys like Ballard, Hamhuis, Sweatt, and Alberts start to return (or go on LTIR themselves in the case of the last 3 guys). Edler's LTIR space is enough to keep a reasonable roster compliant when (if?) everyone else is healthy.

To think, at one point we were worried about fitting Salo and Bieksa on the same team. Clearly, MG didn't acquire enough top 4 D-men, he should have known that he needs at least 9 or 10 of them

I don't even want to think about if the Canucks were fighting for a spot.

Hopefully Hamhuis is back within a week or so and ballard within 2-3...

I guess the silver lining with the Alberts injury is that it's a broken wirst.. he can still skate.

But...
Edler - injured dishing out a hit
Ballard - taken down in the corner after he had cycled the puck behind him
Hamhuis - hit from the side after he had cycled the puck behind the net
Alberts - broken wrist following blocked shot
Sweatt - broken foot following blocked shot in practice

I don't really see how these injuries happened because of our D's propensity to hold on to the puck a little bit longer.

Unless that was sarcasm and I completely missed it.
