Our top 9 is tons better than it was yesterday. Our depth is crazy and our blue line is among the best. There are some concerned GM's out there right now.

I think Holmgren re-ups Leino.

I'm stoked.

It's essentially what the Predators gave up for Fisher, and we get someone who is younger and has already won a Cup.

Why do some posters believe a first (likely to be late 1st, maybe even last) and a 3rd to be over payment for a player who can hit 50-60 points in a year, plays gritty and will be a HUGE upgrade over Nodl on Richards line?

I say Hell Yea!!

He is signed for another year. My guess is Holmgren thinks long and hard this summer over who he keeps, Versteeg or Leino. My guess is playoff preformance makes the difference.

Deepest Defense in the league, Deepest Forward core in the league!

My jaw dropped when I checked facebook, I was really scared Homer did something stupid. Then I checked here and got relieved.

I like this, but I'm sure there is another move soon that will negate this one.

He was on a team with Toews, Kane, Keith and Sharp and has his name on the Cup. Let's not pretend he was the key part of that result.

Nice playmate for Richards. Add grit and cup experience for a 29th pick.

Coburn or Carle are pretty gone after the season.

Can they keep Carcillo and Zherdev happy as 13th & 14th forwards or do they move one of them?

Z for Salvador or Rivet?

Because the Flyers haven't selected a player in the first round since 2008 (Sbisa) and have nothing in terms of prospects. It's not a smart way to go about business in a capped NHL. Homer is going for it all this year and I appreciate the idea but if they do not win this year their are some dark years ahead.

Draper was on a team with Steve Y, Shanny, Chelios, Lidstrom, etc but I am pretty sure his teammates knew he was on the ice.

this is a great trade for you guys, I wanted Boston to get him

He's gonna be solid in the post season, I said in september that you guys are winning the cup this year, Philly - Detroit - Philly in 7. No need for a late first rounder.

Be pretty funny if Versteeg won the Cup this year. He'd be like the anti-Hossa.

I doubt they can take on that much salary. As it is, there's very little wiggle room, no?

Congrats on the trade. Hopefully Steeger is more consistent on a really good team. I'll still be cheering for you guys in the playoffs deep down inside. Way deep. Way way deep, now. Let's see if this guy can go back to back Cups.

He was on their 3rd line, which is exactly what he's going to be here. The price is more than I'd like, but he's being plugged in to essentially the same role. For the player itself, about as good as you can do.

I sort of had a premonition something about about to happen with Tampa Bay up next tomorrow, the Flyers offense hasn't been as efficient as it was before the all-star break.

Don't we have too many players active on the roster right now? Someone has to get traded.

20 regulars + Carbombs + Shelly + Z + Bart

MSE, when was the last trade between the Flyers and Toronto? This is definitely the first trade between the two teams since the lockout involving actual players (I don't count draft pick swaps), but I don't have anything before that.

Edit: Forget it. Already found the info. Flyershistory.com says it was in September of 2000.

True prospects are important but less not get mellow dramatic. The dark days are off in the distance when 8 of your top 9 are 28 y/o or younger, you have a solid goalie prospect that is 22 y/o, and you have 3 dmen just hitting their prime years.

You are being so critical of this trade.

The Flyers got better, didn't give up a roster player and only gave up late picks in a weak draft. They still have pieces they can move around. Now one of Carcillo/Shelley AND Powe will be sitting in the pressbox, plus Walker and Bartulis.

That means we have players who can sub in when there is an injury, which is inevitable.

To say Versteeg wasnt a part of Chicago's Stanley cup win is like suggesting that every team only ice their top 6 starting lineup and forget about everyone else. It's tight playoff series like the one the Flyers lost last year where players like Versteeg win games. Remember Richards and Toews had HORRIBLE series.

I wanted a first, but not the best team in the leagues first.

Especially for Versteeg

Great trade. Trading a first and third stings, but they'll be late picks, and we're getting a really good young player.

His ice time has been cut down multiple times due to a seeming lack of interest and poor play in Toronto. Think about that. Toronto.
