edit: and it made me laugh, because it was a good joke.
The funny thing about that is that reliable news outlets have reported that is the market for Kaberle. Also Gaborik is a much better player than Kaberle and is much younger.

It would have been funny if the poster in question wasn't completely insufferable.

First of all, is everyone in Toronto just like Brian Burke? In the middle of rebuilding a sorry ass team, you want yet another big name? Secondly, there's absolutely nothing, NOTHING, the Leafs can offer that's worth Gaborik. Not even close.

yes, yes there is.

to rangers
finger(salary purposes
kaberle (dont worry he will leave the rangers and resign with the leafs)
clarke mac- instantly steps in and takes control of team. should be captain.
4th round pick in 2014

to leafs
gaborik
kreider
grachev
1st round pick in 2011

if thats not fair deal, then rangers fans need to be sent to a psych ward.

(im going to start responding to other people absurd comments with my own)

i wouldnt consider myself exempt from being a leafs homer by any stretch but stop being ridiculous. I'm a huge gaborik fan, have been since he was drafted, but hes not sid, hes not completely untouchable.

I really hope that offer was a joke. You want Gaborik, our #1 ranked prospect, and a 1st? The package you offered isn't worth half that.

EDIT: I see you whited that part out, well played

But in all honesty there's still nothing the Leafs can offer that I'd trade Gaborik for. I'm not saying Gaborik is untouchable, but nothing the Leafs have interests me.

gotcha.
but really there are packages the leafs could offer that would pry gaborik for sure. they would be absolutely ridiculous for the leafs to even consider because it would destroy the team (more and for longer) but its definitely possible to do.

I don't know if you noticed, but you are sellers, not buyers. Why would you want Gaborik? Is it not time to commit to rebuilding through the draft? You could build a strong prospect pool if you can stop Burke from thinking that the core of the team is any good. You need a ton of work, and it doesn't start with an often injured, high-priced sniper.

Commit to the meltdown - in three or four years, you can start enjoying the fruits of the reduild.

Stay the course - a thousand points of light.

It would take an overwhelming offer for them to move Gaborik, and I don't think they have the pieces Sather would be looking for.

Even if they did, I doubt Toronto would want to gut their team for him during an off-year.

Not enough for the underachieving Gaborik. Leafs have to add McKegg and Reimer.

Sounds more like Leafs have to add Crosby.

I wouldn't say the Leafs have nothing interesting . . . but if the Rangers trade Gaborik it will either involve another superstar (unlikely, because superstar for superstar deals don't happen) or a bundle of high end picks/prospects. Kadri really doesn't interest me, so Schenn and Leafs firsts are what's left in the basket.

Using the Kessel trade as a starting point:

Schenn + 2012 1st + 2012 2nd + 2013 1st

2012 1st + 2012 2nd + 2013 1st + 2014 1st

Obviously, Toronto's not going to do another deal like this given how the last one blew up in their face, so the trade discussion ends there.
