In these situations, there is a tendency to over-react ie go out and trade for a veteran dman (or 2) who ends up doing little for us and costs us a 3rd round pick.

* The obvious to me is to sign Flood (as he's supposedly one of our best dmen on the Moose) to a professional contract and call him up. Low lying fruit that costs us nothing. Though he's right handed, does he play both sides?

* Tanev could be given more minutes - overplaying a rusty Salo is bound to lead to injuries.

* It could be time to call up Bliznak and Sweatt (being our best Meese) as they would allow AV to play Burrows and maybe even Hansen on D (the two best candidates among our forwards in my opinion due to their quickness and excellent stick work).

Anyway, decimated aptly describes our D right now but hopefully there's no panic over it.

As far as I'm concerned it's just playoff practice. Team just needs to buckle down and work as hard as they can and if they pull through this with a .500 record then they'll feel on top of the world heading into the playoffs and hopefully we won't get too screwed up.

Let's see how Sauve fits in up here, so far so good with Meese callups. At least he's been playing in a Canucks-like system - might do better than a stop-gap vet guy from outside the organization, anyone remember how bad AHLberts looked last year?

Ah, the hell with trying to keep calling up defencemen, the new ones will just get hurt. Let's just send a couple of them down, bring up Shirokov and Hodgson, and play even strength with four guys at forward and one on D. Won't do much for our Jennings chances, but let's see Stamkos keep up with Daniel when all of our games finish with football scores.

Let's make a run in the playoffs

Sedin-Sedin-Burrows
Raymond-Kesler-Sammy
Hansen-Malhotra-Neil
Torres-Hodgson-Glass

Edler-Ehrhoff
Phillips-Hamhuis
Bieksa-Ballard
Salo
Alberts

Phillips could be had for a lot less than that I think and Neil makes way to much money to be worth bringing in.

Very true. Not to mention his predecessors in that regard...

Don't worry guys, we have CAP SPACE now! Cap Space is a hard hitting 25 minute a night dman who scored 50 points last season.

Sauve has played better lately and might give the team and provide some stop-gap help. But he is mistake prone and will have coverage problems around net.

Probably ranks #5 on the depth chart with the Moose.

Calling up him instead of Oberg in indicative of where Oberg ranks in the scheme of things

Good thing the Moose called up McGinnis because they are sorely depleted as well

If we keep losing defensemen to the point where we have no choice but to call up our waiver-eligible Moose players, does the CBA have a provision for an emergency waiver exemption?

Or will we have to sign a UBC thunderbird to play for a game?

IMO this should be a situation where you sign Flood - who is easily the #1 defender down there right now - and bring him as the best possible available option. Waivers come into play there, but there's zero chance someone picks him up.

Sauve really shouldn't be in the NHL at this point. Will likely be a situation like with Oberg last year where they give him 5 really sheltered minutes and hope he hangs on well enough to not hurt the team too badly.

Neither Alberts, Hammer or Ballard are on LTIR so we don't have the cap room to make a play for a d-man without damaging our team in the process.

Just wait it out. Ballard will be back soon enough and hopefully same goes for Hammer though that's unknown.

broken wrists take 4-6 weeks. More depending where it's broken and if it's a full break.

Alberts (or I suppose Ballard) is most certainly now on LTIR or there wouldn't have been room to call up Sauve.

Alberts was put on LTIR Immediately after the game. The benefit of a for sure injury and knowing how long he will be out.

Until it started to become obvious that the canucks are in big trouble with their defense people were happy about getting so much cap spce from Edler and Ballard.

Correction, guys. When Ballard got hurt, it was getting ridiculous.

This is a goddamned Greek tragedy right now.
