This is... I don't know. Some months ago there was this thread on the main board about which team had the deepest D. Well this team was up in the discussion, and it certainly was/is among the deepest. But now it is 50/50 NHL/AHL players on the D out there.

This team is great, yes, but there is no team without players.

The team is going to struggle with all these injuries. Deep or not, this is just too much.

Our streak of no one getting hurt lasted a whole one game. Although not quite true since Burrows did get hurt.

I really am speechless.

better now than the playoff boys. we'll just have to ride it out, it is likely we'll get at least 3 of 4 (edler, alberts, ballard) back by the playoff, hamhuis with his concussion is hard to tell. but even if hamhuis is out for the year, with those 3 back we'll be fine.

Why Sauve? Dude is going to get lit up. There are vet AHL defenceman like Mark Flood (who is in our back yard) that are probably better options...

It's a good thing the Canucks have a huge lead in the western conference. Even if the Canucks are to play just .500 hockey from now on, they will still make the playoffs. So I don't think the sky is falling even if the D is a joke right now. On the bright side, the D should be healthy and well rested by the end of the regular season.

Who says it won't be the forwards turn in the playoffs

Remember Game 1 Dallas from like four years ago. Didn't Bur, Kes and Cookie go down

Flood isn't signed with the Canucks and all other Moose defencemen with NHL experience are waiver-eligible. At this point, the only viable options are Sauve and Connauton.

Sauve is probably playing better right now.

But most of all it probably has to do with the contract limit. If we sign Flood, we'd probably limit what we can do at the deadline

If the Canucks play .500 hockey, they'd still have a decent shot at the Conference and would almost surely finish top 2. A .500 record would give them 106 points. As a comparison, Detroit's on pace for 108, Dallas is on pace for 100 (and falling), Nashville's on pace for 98, and so forth.

So if they can just play reasonably well in everyone's absences and even if they come out a few games over .500, they'll be in great shape.

Ballard's apparently ahead of schedule so he should be back soon. Hamhuis might be back soon too. Hopefully one or both will be back before the next road trip in early March.

hahahaha, o my goodness.

Could you imagine this D lineup:
Hamhuis - Bieksa
Ehrhoff - Edler
Salo - Ballard

that would be unreal. too bad it's fantasy not reality.

The problem with calling up Sauve is they won't play him - from all reports, he is barely adequate for the AHL right now - the rest of the D will play tons of minutes with their risk of injury increasing.

Almost certainly better off medium term to put Burrows back there or emergency signing Flood, who has played in the NHL and is on the top pairing on the Moose.

Minutes need to be more balanced..

Well, it's not like this can't happen now and in the playoffs, is it?

God, I'm so ****ing sick of this **** it's unbelievable. When the **** will we learn? Ed Willes' column in the paper last Sunday was bang on the money. Things were going far too well. The Hockey Gods were long overdue to take yet another giant **** on the Canucks, and here it is. Obviously, we were getting too excited with people actually seriously mentioning the Canucks and the phrase "legitimate Cup contenders" in the same sentence, so naturally 2/3 of our starting d all die within a week of each other to long term injuries just going into the stretch drive.

I still would prefer gmMG to get a 3rd line winger and 4th line center over a dman.

Hopefully Ballard is back in the next 10-14 days. Hamhuis who knows, but he could only be a week or two away as well. Hopefully we can get both of them back by the end of the month.

How huge is after Hamhuis and Alberts that Ballard isn't months or season ending? So massive that we'll likely get him back fairly soon.

Better now than in the playoffs.

Every team has their share of injuries and this team is having their share right now.

Vancouver really has been unlucky over the last few years though but it's best to just get this ******** out of the way now and hopefully we're healthy come playoff time.

At this point the next 25 games mean very little outside of preparing for the playoffs.

The real season start mid April for this Canuck team so hopefully everyone is ready to go then.
