He sounds like a bigger Hamrlik.

Except the fact that Hamrlik is a first pick overall and Nash is undrafted.

Don't even joke about that. I'm this close to starting a "rebuild" thread

Nice...pretty soon we'll have an all rookie/ahl defensive lineup.

Subban
Weber
Picard
Nash

Hamerlik and Wiz better be up to snuff tonight

Out: Markov, Gorges, Gill, Spacek

This was a last minute call-up as Spacek didnt skate this morning...I assume they dont' want to risk exposing Carle to waivers and lose him during an emergency call-up.

Makes sense...

Buy him some new legs so he can skate with NHL players.

Not to sound like an alarmist but Gill's injury bothers me even if Spacek wasn't at the morning skate. LOL

Gill's injury was listed as "upper body" but I read somewhere it's a wonky knee although maybe given how tall he is the knee could be considered upper body.

Anybody read what his injury is because if it's a knee then I'm extremely nervous.

Hopefully Spacek is okay, he's been playing good hockey lately... wish Nash was just replacing Picard.

What is Spacek's injury?

I would like to think it has something to do with lack of vitamin d and he's being sent to Florida (where he was drafted) for Weiss...

I can dream!

Dude, upper body =/= knee.

The team is under obligation to mention wether it's upper or lower body injuries. They can't cheat about that. So if they say it's upper body, then your nonquoted source is wrong.

Proof that Carle's window is closed in Montreal, really.

I'm sure it's just insurance. There is no way Montreal trades a D without getting one back, but I could see them wanting extra healthy bodies (Darche is back so that's 13F and Nash makes 7D) around the deadline.

Sometimes teams make trades and need to play one game short, so this is just good insurance.

To me, Nash and Klubertanz have passed Carle on the depth chart. Nash seems to be more defensively responsible though and given Subban and Weber are already up, Klubertanz would be a bridge too far.

Realistically though, Nash represents 10th on Montreal's ideal depth chart. If Carle cannot get called up with that many regulars out, his days in the organization are over.

What's wrong with Festerling? Wasn't he supposed to be the insurance policy? A guy with NHL experience?

6'3'', 205 pounds with 20 assists this season!

Hamrlik - Wisniewski
Gill - Subban
Nash - Spacek

Quote:
Nash is a smart, offensive-minded defenseman who possesses a nice combination of size, mobility and puck skills. He uses his 6'3 frame and long reach to great advantage, particularly in protecting or stripping the puck. He's also not afraid to join the offensive play. Defensively, he is solid and keeps things pretty simple. Nash has great poise and patience with the puck, but what sets him apart from many young defensemen is in his timely passing ability, particularly on power plays. Though he skates quite well for a big man, Nash needs to work on having quicker feet. Developing speed and strength are two areas that will be paramount to his future success.

Cornell head coach Mike Schafer's comments on Nash: "With Sasha Pokulok and Ryan O'Byrne signing pro contracts last summer, Brendan had a lot of responsibilities as a freshman and he did a tremendous job. He logged as much ice time as we could possibly give him and played in all situations. It's just a matter of Brendan continuing to excel. We expect big things from him next year and I think he'll be one of the top defensemen in our league."

Not physical... depends how you see it, i believe he had two fights this season, i saw at least one and he looked good, he pushes players around aftet the whistle, but will not give big hits, from the games i,ve seen he looks like he disrespect people, Mike Richard might be exasperated.

Nash is the top scoring defender on Hamilton, he's also tied for the best plus/minus on the active roster.

He's also a pretty big guy, even if he's not physical, which is something the defense could probably use. Sure he may not throw the Komisarek hit, but he can probably still physically clear the net.

In fact, as fun as those big hits (like Subban throws) are, they rarely do good. Weber has gotten good at being clever (like Streit and Markov, although not that good), but it's still good to have someone who has the physical dimensions to just throw a guy around when needed.

To me, Lapierre wasn't really traded for Festerling. Lapierre was traded for Desharnais

To be honest I never heard anybody mention one way or the other. Having said that this is where I read about it. I don't want you to agonize too much reading the article so I'll tell you it's about the ninth paragraph down where his alleged injury is mentioned.

I wonder if it has something to do with waiver status? Maybe the team is just bringing Nash up as a precautionary measure and didn't want to risk losing Carle on waivers when he went back down?

Unless Nash is up on an emergency recall due to an injury. Then never mind.

I'm excited to hopefully see Nash though

All the bashing on Picard is so dumb. The guy is above average if he doesn't have to chew up huge minutes. Nash isn't likely going to be able to step in and chew up huge minutes either.

Since returning the line-up, Picard has 1PTS and is a +2 in 4-games. Don't see how thats bad.

Anyway, sucks to see Spacek go. I'm one of the few who likes him around here I think. But I loved Nash in the pre-season and the few Bulldogs games I've seen.

Gill Knee Injury ??????
All right, I give you the benefit of the doubt.

It'd still be in violation of NHL rule. But then again, the NHL proved recently it has no motivation to actually enforce its own rules.
