The only other good news for black-and-blue defence corps is that Ballard and Sweatt have not been placed on the long-term injured list, suggesting they could make swifter recoveries than initially expected. Ballard might be able to return next week
Flood would have to clear waivers to go back to Manitoba because of his pro experience IIRC. It came down to the 3 left and they picked Yann. Maybe the Nucks can get a 4-5 goal lead the first game and play Yann more than 8 minutes.
I'm tired of this myth that the regular season doesn't matter. Just because you hear the players saying things like "We don't get caught up in all the regular season stuff" doesn't mean the regular season isn't important.
Personally, I believe the Canucks' chances of success in the playoffs are greater if they roll into the playoffs on a high note, which is kind of obvious if you think about it a bit. If you think the Canucks can limp into the playoffs (if in fact they do struggle the rest of the way, not saying it's going to happen) and suddenly turn a switch and become dominant, you're terribly naive.
In a word, no, late-season performance does not have predictive value for the first round of the playoffs. If you want to start worrying, you really want to look back at least 35 games.
Our team is really close to the contract limit of 50, we can't just sign people to fill a need for a little bit. Better to exhaust all avenues before going that route, so we have the ability to add more contracts come trade deadline.

Who cares? He likely wouldn't get claimed and we only need him for a month or so anyway. And at that point it would be post-deadline and he couldn't play until next year. No team is going to do that.

There is room, (Schaefer/Rypein/Peters) it just makes no sense to me to bring up Sauve unless the Moose were really unhappy about potentially losing Flood.

as long as hamhuis is fine, we'll be rolling again by mid to late march

Would he have to clear on the way up to the NHL?
Wouldn't it be akin to the Wellwood, Nabokov, etc. situations where they've played in a pro league before signing an NHL deal, or does that only apply to European leagues?
In that case the risk is minimal, but it's still there where we lose Flood (more important for the Moose, obviously) for nothing.
Sauve presents the path of least resistance, and if he just keeps it really simple, he's got the tools (size and mobility being the primary two) to acquit himself well as a stop gap, I would hope.

I wouldn't be surprised if this played a bit of a roll. You don't to decimate your farm team as well. A good working relationship is key, especially with how Manitoba has been developing players for us recently.
Hopefully Sekeres isn't talking out of his 'ace' here.
As for Ballard . Lets hope sekeres is right. Then again anything coming from that guys mouth is questionable. Actually on the team 1040 he just admitted he tweeted a BC lion was about to
sign after the lion tweeted " getting ink". He meant he was getting a tattoo.
He seems to either pull things from his ass or Just copy other peoples reports.
Not surprising.... What " source" .. Gm ... Player... Owner .. Coach would ever wanna talk to that guy and hear his aggrivating voice or see his down syndrome pug face?

Sekeres did his usual. Picked up speculation by other writers (Botchford and MacIntyre) as to why Ballard was not assigned to LTIR and makes it sound as if he has a source.
Man we could ice TWO D-corps (and a pretty damn good one just from the ones on the injured list). This is getting to the point of "I don't even know how to react anymore... it's just.... yeah"
Clearly someone's out to get us. With a vengeance. And for all those people who are saying that it's better to get it out of the way now instead of in the playoffs... who says this couldn't happen then as well?
Also, isn't there some emergency rule where players can get called up without having to be exposed to waivers if we don't have enough personnel for a position?

I hope you are wrong, but that makes sense. Although how bloody amazing would it be if Ballard played next week after how horrific that knee looked on first glance...yikes.

Patrick, Ballard back much sooner than later.

Oooooooh. Man I was having such a hard time thinking of an injured defenseman named Patrick. I assumed they had already signed and lost someone with that name.
