They don't want to call up Carle, he would get plucked off waivers. Seems to be a lot of D getting injured around the league so you call players that don't go through waiver.

I think it was more about who they'd rather keep in the long run, him or Weber. They're both in (or close to?) that situation where if they get sent down or called up they have to go through waivers, so they didn't want to end up losing one of them for nothing. I prefer Weber, so i'm happy about their decision. He's (o'byrne) had success in Colorado, but I think Weber is playing very well too. It would have been nice to have both Weber and O'byrne on the same team here, but unfortunately, at the time of his O'byrne's trade, we had too many better D then him. He just didn't instill enough confidence in the Habs brass to trade away a veteran to ensure a spot for him--because that was the only way to give both Weber and O'byrne regular ice time.

Once again: He's already been through waivers and cleared.

...and if they claim him they need to keep a guy with almost no NHL experience on their team all year.

No one is going to do that unless their defense is absolutely decimated.

Montreal has the most decimated defense in the league and he isn't even in our plans, so I sincerely doubt anyone else is going to take him.

Could handedness also be a factor with this call-up? Given that we already have The Wiz, Subban and Weber as RDs, Carle is simply the odd-righty-out?

Most likely, that and Nash has had a good season.

What's his style? Another Offense-D, or he is your vanilla defencemen with good home zone play?

Vancouver's defense is more decimated than ours...plus there are teams who can dump salary on defense and get assets back, if they can get a guy like Carle for free to be a #6-7 and they can trade their veteran UFA(Phillips, Vandermeer etc) for assets they need somebody to fill in. Regardless, the fact that the call up is probably only for 7-10 days makes no sense risking losing one of the Bulldogs top d-men for nothing.

Maybe he is in our plans but not until next year so we don't have to expose him to waivers.

Yes!

I've been wanting this all season. I was very impressed by him in camp and in the Dogs games I've ever. Great first pass, decent offensive instincts, and keeps it SIMPLE in his own end. Very safe but solid player.

I wouldn't go quite that far. But I think we'll see that we can pencil him into second place behind Hamrlik as our second most defensively reliable.

Solid two way but better in the offensive zone. Good frame, smart, works hard, mobile, can move the puck well.

Very happy to see Nash getting a call up. Well deserved. Hopefully we can see what he can do.

I like his size, and he's not as injury prone as M.C obviously.

I remember reading something a couple of months ago where Scotty Bowman said he'd like to see the NHL get rid of the rule about goalies playing the puck outside of that silly trapezoid-thing. He said it leaves D too open to injury.

I'm looking forward to seeing Nash step in to the line up. I liked what I saw from him in camp and in the AHL.

This is just proof that our defense is too old and soft.

Have to argue that he's the best overall Dman. Nash gets little shutdown or PK time. Carle's stats are probably as good given the injury time missed and he plays both PP and PK. This to me makes Carle the more valuable. Must be the Habs want a left hand shot and this gives them a chance to have a look at how he's progressed. If he's going to fill in as the seventh guy then it's a good move and will give him experience but don't be fooled, he is not NHL ready at this point compared to Subban at this time last year who was. If this is a longer term move and he will see minimum playing time then it doesn't make sense. There are guys with NHL experience that are better off in the press box.

I liked Nash at camp too and it just can be good for the team if the kid jump in and does a good job, cant wait to see him play..

Never been a Carle fan, it looks like his days are counted in the org.

Our team is so young

Subban, Nash and Weber on defense. Subby and Weber have been impressive so far.
DDH, Pacioretty, Pouliot, White, and Eller up front. All but the latter have broken expectations.
And of course, the man, the legend, Carey Price

Youth movement is treating us well.

I was told by a poster on here one time that there was no youth movement and that it was a figment of my imagination... Hmmmm....

personally tho

if i was the GM in montreal, id make every kids first NHL game thru mid-season call up, a road game, just cuz, u know? just cuz..

start him off on the road, less nerves to handle, THEN after his first NHL game to settle down THOSE nerves, let him play at the big stage, the bell center, and see how he handles that
