Someone posted that the Tampa fans cheer like crazy whenever Stamkos touches the puck or goes near it. Well I went to a Chicago game last year before the playoffs (my cousin is a huge Hawks fan) and the fans literally whistle and howl like dogs whenever Patrick Kane touches the puck; it was really funny to watch

I dont think its overpayment. that pick will likely be in the 50s anyway.

as far as the game tonight, good win even if it took getting it done in the skills comp. Oh and screw Randy Jones. freakin pile of ****.
JVR with the Gordie Howe hattrick! hes only one behind Gordie in that department.

Notes from the game:

1. Guy Boucher is the best coach in the bigs bar none.
2. Brian Mach has no business collecting a paycheck as an NHL linesman
3. The 3rd thing my father taught me about Goaltending, at the tender age of 8, was to put your paddle down on the ice and prevent the cross-crease pass (Jeff Reese and Boosh take note!)
4. Why wasn't JvR given a shot in the SO?
5. Nobody wants to play the Bolts in round 1

And leave a puck sitting right in front of the net, with no stick blade between your knees and you bent over with your hands likely in bad position to make a save? Their game is too fast for that.

There are reasons why Boucher and Reese have professional positions in the field of hockey goal tending, no NHL goalie regularly does this, and your father was coaching his son.

The Flyers do not match up well against Tampa. It seems we have to play our best for 60 minutes to have a better than avg chance of beating them these days.....They do a great job between the blue lines and they anticipate very well.....Guy has done a remarkable job with his club, especially considering the injuries, Flu etc....I hope like heck we do not see Tampa in the playoffs, we just do not match up well, although we are a much better team on paper, stats etc.....It's just one of them things its hard to put a finger on.....I was very happy we won tonight, it certainly could have went either way.....Boosh was excellent !

The Lightning are a very good squad. I still see them as a top 2 threat in the Eastern Conference. That said... Tampa, I will always hate you for 2004.

The Randy Jones v. JVR fight I know JXC loved that one.

I was really hoping to see Stamkos and Richie go at it when they started mixing it up. We were watching the game on mute, what happened to provoke Richie? That seems a little out of character for him to just go after Stamkos like that if he didn't do anything. I can't pay as good of attention when the game is on mute and we have music playing, so I may have missed something obvious.

I think he was trying to get your team going. Hugfest 2011 followed

I've said it before... it'll be a damn shame if Barry Trotz doesn't win the Adams this season. What he's done with that roster is nothing short of spectacular.

Stamkos pulled a Cindy and dove, so Richie tried to teach him a lesson. TB doesn't scare me, any team with Jones and MAB on the back end will be exploited as we know with Jones and how horrible MAB was for MTL last year, at least he has a bomb from the point though.

Coburn was in beast mode. It was really nice to see.

I thought Versteeg looked pretty good considering the circumstances. He's a little chippy and knows his positions fairly well already.

Uhh...what?

Richards elbowed Stamkos in the head and some profanities and other nonsense followed. Unless you were watching a different game than the rest of us?

Watch before all of that happened. Stamkos dove when that pass came through. Richards wasn't happy about that.

...And so Richards elbows him in the head for it? Maybe Stamkos dove or maybe he didn't, but let's not act like Richards is all innocent here.

With regards to the Bolts, even if it's boring to watch that type of defensive hockey, their bottom-six players such as Bergenheim and Moore had really good games. Hedman was much more assertive than previous games against us. Kubina had a pretty good game as well I think.

If Stamkos dives, he deserves elbows to the face, as far as I'm concerned. I hate diving, even when it's our own guys doing it. It is cheating by definition.

Personally, I didn't think he dove, nor did I think Richie elbowed him. I think Stamkos lost an edge and reached for the puck, and I think Richie was actually trying to throw a punch and missed with his glove and got him with a glancing elbow.

I didn't absolve him of blame, I was just pointing out that I didn't think it was some random thing he tried to do.

What I love about this team right now is that the Briere line is set and Giroux/Carter are also set. Both JvR and Zherdev played well with them so it's time to get the right combo with Richie. I would prefer Zherdev with Carter and Roo and then move JvR to Richie's line with Versteeg and just leave them there so they all get used to each other.

I wonder how Versteeg's fitness compares to the others. He didn't play a ton in Toronto recently and we all remember what the Flyers were like pre-Lavi. He has to learn a new system and probably get in a bit better shape so I say let him stay on Richie's line and keep those lines set.
