No, doesn't mean anything. Trotz said once (a few years ago) that he doesn't showcase players or worry about scouts.

Not to let any air out of the balloon or whatever, but apparently Montreal only ended up having one scout at the game.

Clearly the other scouts were working with Dumont with off-ice conditioning tests, interviews, etc.

I'm on board for him, but think assets will be an issue.

He doesn't address a huge need, but it would give us some leverage with Weber. Plus, turn our defense into a huge strength. Also down the road (or earlier), we could trade one of the big 3 to address a scoring.

Best I can come up with is one of Ellis/Blum, and 1st in 2012. We really don't have an attractive scoring piece to send to them though, unless they like Buddish or Beck.

Or are just a bunch of monkeys flinging poo up against the walls because we have no friggin clue.

IF and I say IF Nashville and Montreal were to deal what t=do they each need?

Nashville:

What the talking heads say:

Vet Dman, more scoring.

What the stats say:

More offense, dear God more offense.

Montreal:

Another D-man

What the stats say:

More offense

Fact is, Montreal will have 4 or their dmen on UFA and will need a dman on the cheap.

Nashville's offense is meh but if they make a trade for a forward they would have to trade another roster forward along with Dumont to get said forward.

If anything, the best Nashville can get is Sulzer for a pick, bring up Johnson.

The dream would be to condense forwards into one scoring forward but that aint gonna happen.

thats what I meant. you would think a guy like JP wouldnt need to be scouted much, especially having played in buffalo a lot. but i also would think if the deal is done we would have had it announced already today, unless they are still haggling over the additional pieces

Or, sheer fact is Dumont is a fifth wheel and does not fit. Someone has to lose the 'One of these things is not like the other' game.

'Canes fan here. I am hearing about Dumont to Carolina for Ian White.

How has Dumont been this year, and would you guys do this deal?

This one I don't see. Little chance JP agrees to go to Carolina and I don't see that we need White.

Ian White traded to Vancouver. Guess that shoots White for Dumont down.

EDIT- Hold up, that was just some random dude on Twitter. All major sources are shooting it down.

I would be extremely satisfied with that deal. White is the kind of guy I was looking for to pair with Klein, but I didn't think he would be so readily available after already being traded once this year. He moves the puck extremely well, which has been Klein's biggest (and really only) weakness.

I could see Dumont waiving to go to Carolina. It's close, culturally similar to Nashville and gives him a chance to get more PT.

I still believe the most likely trade is Dumont plus Sulzer for a mid-level veteran d-man (likely being somewhat overpaid). Perhaps the Preds get a pick too.

If Bogosian is truly available, I hope this is somebody we at least take a look at. Granted, it would cost one of our elite defensive prospects, I would go with Blum, and then Ellis in that order. It would also cost us another two semi-substantial pieces. What that means, I am not sure. However, he is a guy with some serious serious ability, and if there is one thing our coaching staff can get the most out of - it is our defensemen. I think he could be come a superstar in our system. This would probably need to be an off-season move, and I don't ever see it happening. Just food for thought

Fine with me, but that would be up to JP and if he is willing to go there.

With Mara going to the Habs, does this increase the chance that Dumont is really the one being scouted? What else could they need from us, realistically?

Hard to scout Dumont if he does not play? They could have been looking at a player like Sulzer now that they have Mara they might not care about us anymore.

It wont be Sullivan, it'll be Dumont. Sully loves this city too much to waive his NMC.
