One can make an argument that Toronto is willing to take on other team's junk as long as there is a sweetener involved (eg. Lupul to Toronto if Gardiner is included). They took on Phaneuf's overpaid contract with Aulie included... They are a potential dumping ground for Gomez!

What upside? playing 9 minutes per game?

Komisarek has upside??

That's a first. He is what he is, he's not going to sprout some puck handling ability anytime soon... I think he would desperately like to go back to playing beside Markov.

Gomez has a horrible contract and he's playing like a third line centre. But to be honest, the Habs wouldn't bother to waive him or whatnot unless they were able to get another centre.

Now as for this trade, Bozak + Komisarek are roughly equivalent to Gomez's salary I believe. So what's the incentive for the Habs to do it and give up Pouliot too? They aren't gaining anything, Komisarek is trash now that it's clear he can't play without a partner who covers up all his mistakes...Bozak can play, but is he equivalent to Gomez and Pouliot combined? No.

And as for the Leafs, well yeah Gomez might click with Kessel but the fans would jump overboard because dreams of Richards would be disappearing...

Sorry, but there is no way Komisarek comes back to Montreal. Hab fans would rather take Finger than Komi. Otherwise they just give Komi the finger. Pouliot is too useful to the Habs to get rid of. Bozak doesn't bring us anything we already have, even moreso for Lupul. If Montreal gets rid of any more draft picks, it's to fill holes and not to add more of what they have.

As far as Gomez is concerned. His salary is going down in the next few years but not his cap hit. That might be appealling to some teams.

Komi has upside when playing alongside a world class defender like Markov. Otherwise he has downside.

Gomez can go home. I would love to have Pouliot but not in this deal. Too soo. To trade Lupol/he's supposed to replace Versteeg. Bozak does more than a 3rd rounder would.

Bozak is a much cheaper, but slightly worse replacement for Gomez
Pouliot is a bigger, cheaper and slightly worse replacement for Lupul
Komisarek is there to offset the massive cap that we get from Gomez

EDIT: And for Toronto, they basically are transferring some cap from defence to offence.

FLAME AWAY
I would trade Gomez for Komisarek. But not the rest. Then flip Komisarek to west coast team probably for a tough guy with a semi-bad contract in return. Many teams out there looking for defense help.

only reason he has upside is cuz the opposition would dump the puck on his side knowing they'll get hit but still end up with the puck. if it's sent on markov's side they wont see the puck again

Cool idea with just coincidentally ultra-hot button players involved. But clearly HFBoards has spoken... a resounding NO from all sides. /thread
