Matt Gilroy is last in the NHL in...

Power play production for defenseman.

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=354308

Scroll to the bottom for defense.

Gilroy at 125th. Dead last.

He has no points on the PP, because he never plays it anymore. /

There was a good stretch where he was getting solid PP time. Point is, he hasn't even recorded a POINT.

And he's supposed to be an offensive defenseman. Even Eminger has a point on the PP, and he's played only 14:44 on the PP.

I was going to start a thread tonight, which I never do, but he does not belong in the NHL. Nothing he does is NHL caliber. Half the time he is ahead of the forwards forechecking and he is the last guy backchecking. I'm not sure if he is a defenseman or a midfielder. He's not good at either to top it off. I don't understand the love for him by the coaching staff and I hope he proves me wrong but as of now, I see nothing of him that is going to stay in this league more than 2 years.

Gilroy experiment was a nice try but an overall failure. Time to move on

As long as they replace him with a vet, try and get anything for him now, can't imagine he is in the future plans.

Considering like 75% of the time the powerplay is futile and pretty much nobody does **** I wouldn't expect gilroy to have contributed anything

Probably our only defenseman that has any ability to skate the puck . I Wasn't so impressed with Girardis game on the R side tonight what was he -3 , and as I saw out of position on all those goals and 2 of them right after we took a lead . Which by the way since when does a coach get a lead and let the other team relax . Put Gilroy with A partner who can defend and let him use his talent his skating and he will be successful . Gilroy will play in the NHL maybe not for us but elsewhere . Look for a new skape goat cause he was even tonight . Girardi wishes he had Matts foot speed

This team will not get anywhere relying on Gilboy for defense. He still looks like a boy in a mans game. He somehow finds a way to have shots softer than fluff, but passes that are so fast and inaccurate that no one can receive them.... He was impressive in preseason of last year and since then has been horrible. He is paid to play defense and simply doesn't, he has more interest in leaving the zone and letting guys get into the crease, nothing about his game says defense. He is not going to suddenly 'get it' at his age.

Thats great and all that he has foot speed....but for an NHL player he doesn't possess: shooting ,passing, battling in corners, awareness on the ice, shot-blocking, crease clearing.

If Kuba actually is somehow interesting to the Rags, Kuba for Gilroy is probably what would happen imo.

Gilroy will get abused in the playoffs the guy is horrible. I rather play Eminger instead. He will block more shots and hit more. Neither provides any offense.

the worst offensive defenseman in the league in terms of offensive production.

and a below average sometimes frighteningly bad player in his own zone.

he sucks, i woudl trade him in a heartbeat.

lol, if the PP was futile only 75% of the time we'd be in great shape. 25% PP would be our best in years.
