Tell him 2.35 for 2 like his linemate Kulemin and if he continues to light it up he'll be rewarded in a couple of years.
And since when is $3M per a top 6 contract.... look around at what other 60+ pt players are making.

Heck Grabovski got 2.9 for producing less than what MacArthur has produced this season.

This is the first year he has shown his potential and he's been given Top 6 Minutes and Power Play Time. Remember how well Dominic Moore did for us when he was given Top 6 Minutes and what has he done since?
We should be looking at more like Kulemin's deal (2.35 over 2 years). Then, once he's proven that this season is not a fluke he can command bigger $$$.

I would hate to tie up 3 Million a year for 3 if he becomes a bust after 1 breakout year. After all this is the guy that Atlanta let go after arbitration and nobody else wanted. Burke did a great job picking him up for 1.1 million but he needs to show consistency over a couple of years to earn the bigger pay day.
The only issue is, I can definately see someone offersheeting him, and sacrificing a 2nd (especially a late one) for him. Would we take the 2nd, or match? First and 3rd I'd take and run, but not sold on losing him for a 2nd.

Thats what he is asking for, and Leafs will probably offer somwething in the neighbourhood of what he got from the arbitrator last summer, which I believe was 2.4 million. If they settle for something in the middle, 2.75, then that would be ideal. IMO

I'm hoping for a bit lower, something in the 2.5-2.75 range, I think Burke will likely start with a similar cap-hit to Burrows. Both were in their first productive years when they were looking to sign playing better than anyone expected them to.

3 years @ $3m would be ideal. Can't let him walk over that kind of money.

I would give him between 2,75 and 3 Million. I am pretty sure Burke will get a deal done in that range.

I wouldn't pay him anything more than 3 mil. I doubt he will have another season as good as this one; but I think he will continue to do well in the future.

I would be happy with 2.5-3 mil/year.

This is not his first productive year, he had 30+ points in 08-09 and 09-10 making peanuts.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me.

He doesn't strike me as a guy who will just sit back and collect a cheque. He seems really motivated by playing in this market.

That would be good, but as the salary cap goes up, it's hard to justify the same contract. I am a bit worried about his production ongoing, but if you give a bit more money and he continues his production, he's a great deal.

MacArthur will be re-signed. He made Versteeg expendable and that money will now be used towards his new contract.

It's his first year where he's producing at a decent rate. 30 while being an average (at best) "grinder" isn't great. He's on pace for 63 points, close to double his best year to date, which was last season. This is his first truly productive season, aside from that he's been a below average NHL player who was looking for a role.

Burrows makes $2 mill/year on a 4 year deal, so the $2.5-2.75 would be a raise on that contract. I think the higher end of that is fair, he's a bit younger than Burrows with slightly better numbers (point-wise), though he isn't as good defensively.

Give him Grabo money and eventually give all three of the same money long term.

3x3 sounds good to me for AMac.

Like someone else pointed out, when do you see a team paying out on the full first request of the player's agent?

Figured 2.7-3 mil for 3 years was the terms that would be amicable to both sides. Wonder if Burke is considering going even longer term?

I think its a fair price to pay. Seems like a quality guy, speaks well to the media, gives it on the ice. Also keeps the 1-b line together for at least 1 more year.

Now we can start having polls for when the next time MacArthur will snap on the ice and give another player a beat down.

No way. Watch by the 3rd yr we'll be calling for his head.

I'll be fine with the contract, but posting this year and will stand by this post .
