Kings @ Islanders; New Practice Lines

Here’s how the Kings’ forwards are skating in Long Island today…

Richardson-Kopitar-Simmonds
Smyth-Stoll-Williams
Clifford-Handzus-Brown
Ponikarovsky/Lewis/Loktionov/Westgarth/Sturm

Johnson and Mitchell aren't practicing - likely "maintenance" days.

Can we just reunite the Smyth-Kopitar-Williams line and make the 2nd line the revolving door line?

I like those lines, especially against a team like the Islanders.

Get Strum in there if he's ready.

Sturm - Loktionov - Poni

you mean a team that has several fighting majors, two players suspended, and receives a 100k fine in just one game? haha

We should put Lokti on the same line as Handzus. Have Zues take the face-offs and then switch to LW while Loki switches to C. If Lokti could win a face off to save his life, he'd probably have more potential as a C.

After 1 shootout loss he's mixing up the lines again? Holy christ.

I think Murray also considers ice time and game matchups when he changes his lines. Some fresher legs in the 3rd and 4th. TM is an old pro that believes rookies like Loktionov are best developed by feeling playoff or end of season push atmosphere on the bench rather than throwing them out in the middle of it. Loki will get his share in the middle minutes of periods when there's less risk and more reward.

Nice to see Richie rewarded - the additional speed should open up some ice for Kopi.

Yeah, cuz rookies always come into the league and dominate faceoffs.

Actually these moves were more or less done at the start of the 3rd last nite, except I think Poni was playing on the 3rd instead of Clifford.

Mediocrity would be acceptable. Complete ineptitude is not. He had 1W and 8L last night vs NY. That's 11.1%.

You seriously think Lokti deserves to be out there in the 3rd period in a tie game taking defensive zone face-offs?

I like his offensive game as much as the next guy, but lets be real here. TM has a defense first philosophy and he's not going to put a C out there in crunch time who can't win a faceoff, especially in the defensive zone. Hence the comment about Zeus being on the same line to take the faceoffs.

It never has been. Everytime he says he is making a move for chemistry it lasts like 2-3 games and gets broken up.

Looks OK to me. Still discouraging to see the first line(really, our 2nd line), is made up of two 3rd/4th liners and an offensively inconsistent scoring center, Kopi is not Crosby! but hey, what ya gonna do?

Are the Isles still dressing them goons?

Let's be real here Loktionov showed way too much creativity and smarts, once Murray sucks the creativity out of him he'll be slotted accordingly.

Yeah, we can't have a skillful player like Loktionov play center man, no way, that's not what Terry Murray likes. ****ing idiot, he puts him as a center and the kid puts up points, now he's benching him and he probably won't play tomorrow. **** man, that **** pisses me off, **** TM

Pretty much. Loktionov's gonna be real good -- once he improves in the Faceoff circle and his defensive coverage.

Loktionov will probably be back in Manch when Sturm gets back anyways. Definitely when Parse gets back. It's a shame but we have too many guys on one way deals unless we make a trade.

Also, you have to keep in mind that the Isles have been playing nasty hockey lately. TM is probably trying to protect him from injury.

He had a bad game in the circle. Stoll had a pretty bad night too winning less than 30%. But before the game Loktionov was fairly close to 50%. 22 won. 24 lost. That's decent enough to be called mediocre I'd say.

But, agreed, he shouldnt be out there taking key defensive face-offs late in the 3rd on a bad night.

First off, you (and a couple others who fly off the deep end every time a change is made to the lineup) need to cool the rhetoric. It's not the end of the world.

Second... the Kings have been sub-par in face-offs over the last few games of this road trip. Your centerman are out there to play solid two-way hockey, but they're also out there to win their share of draws. Have a look at Loktionov's faceoff wins last game. http://www.nhl.com/scores/htmlreport...1/FC020864.HTM

That's brutal. Centerman can't do that poorly in faceoffs on the road in particular. Murray makes his share of head-scratcher decisions. This isn't one of them.
