Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden: Game #60 @ New Jersey Devils
Player of the Game & The Good, The Bad, The Redden
The Rules What is the poll for?
You are voting for the player of the game - the one who put forth the most effort, who put the team on his shoulders, who contributed the most.
Do not vote for the player who had the best statistical game just because he had the best statistical game.
This does not mean you should not vote for the player of who had the best statistical game, but do not vote for him just because of that fact.
Who can I vote for?
You may vote for any player who dressed for the game and played at least one shift. If the player you want to vote for is not included in the poll, select "Other" and indicate in your post who you wish to vote for. In the case that I egregiously miss the player who everyone wants to vote for in the poll, I will count the votes in the thread.
What is this "The Good, The Bad, The Redden" nonsense?
It is my twist on the title of the famous spaghetti western movie, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly .
Since multiple players may have outstanding games and you can only vote for one player in the poll, this affords you the opportunity to recognize multiple players, or a facet of the team, for their commendable play ("The Good" ). This also affords you the opportunity to rip players, or a facet of the team, for their particularly substandard play ("The Bad" ). Finally, just as "The Player of the Game" affords you the opportunity to recognize the best, this affords you the opportunity to commend the crème de la crème of the worst, who delivered an atrocious performance, or whose singular (or multiple) bad plays directly led to the the detriment of the team ("The Redden" ).
Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy
The Alexander Frolov Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player who most exemplifies the qualities that Alex brought to the ice game in and game out. Most notable was his talent for wraparounds. Thusly, this award is given to the player who has the most wraparound attempts throughout the game.
The award tonight goes to Erik Christensen, with 1 wraparound attempt against New Jersey.
The Hall of Wraparounds Game Trophy Recipient Wraparounds (Opposing Goaltender) #44 Sean Avery 2 (Alex Auld) #45 Brandon Dubinsky 1 (Cory Schneider) #46 Sean Avery/Brandon Dubinsky/Brandon Prust 1/1/1 (Carey Price) #47 Mats Zuccarello 1 (Brian Boucher) #48 Marian Gaborik 1 (Jonas Gustavsson) #49 Brian Boyle/Marc Staal/Wojtek Wolski 1/1/1 (Cam Ward) #50 Mats Zuccarello 1 (Ondrej Pavelec) #51 Chris Drury 1 (Braden Holtby) #52 Sean Avery/Marian Gaborik 1 (Tomas Vokoun) #53 Chris Drury 1 (Marc-Andre Fleury) #54 Vaclav Prospal 1 (Martin Brodeur) #55 Artem Anisimov/Vaclav Prospal 1 (Carey Price) #56 Brian Boyle 1 (Jimmy Howard) #57 Derek Stepan 1 (Ondrej Pavelec) #58 Sean Avery 1 (Marc-Andre Fleury) #59 Brandon Dubinsky/Brandon Prust 1 (Jonathan Bernier) #60 Erik Christensen 1 (Johan Hedberg)

The Good: Lundqvist
The Bad: Everyone else.
The Redden: The Devils have been doing the same thing for 17 years and noone has figured it out yet.

Maybe we wouldn't lose this if Girardi wasn't so damn slow. Kovalchuk blew by him.
We need to upgrade speed on defense. Also why does no defenseman try to rush the puck from defensive zone? We need to trade for a defenseman or 2.

This team has become insufferable since the turn of the year.
Meh.

Staal had a particularly bad game. Not just the Kovalchuk breakaway, but falling down, missing passes, and going offside at inopportune moments.

When the hell is Tortorella going to put Boyle on the power play?
And when the hell is Del Zotto going to go back to Hartford? He can't run a PP, he can't play defense, and as we saw on the last power play, he can't even hit an open net.

Pathetic is a great word for what this team was tonight. They had a chance to get 2 more points and they didnt show up. Just atrocious that they cant score just ONE goal on Hedberg the devils backup. I'm so sick of watching their PP lose game after game for them. So sick of watching them dump and chase over and over again. No one can carry the puck through the neutral zone it seems. No one dares to try and carry the puck through the neutral zone right through the middle. Every entry/dump-in comes from the boards outside the blueline or a deflection. It seems thats all they know how to do. This team needs another legit scorer. Just awful. Awful loss. Cant find a way to score. I'm so disgusted with the PP. Just start rejecting the PP opportunities.
Jokes. Thats what they were tonight. Especially on the PP.

Pathetic that we can't score a freaking goal. 1 goal = 1 point tonight. That goes a long way towards making the playoffs...or not.

Well... at least the 10 (or is it 11?) game streak of at least one goal redirected off one of our own players ended. 14 (or 15) goals.

Another 28 minutes on the Staal odometer. How much longer can he do this? The guy basically played a whole game in 2 days worth of action. He can't do this the 22 games the rest of the season.

Vomit-inducing, pre-lockout, clutch and grab trapfest by the Devils. Welcome back to the dead puck era, everyone!

Im going to have to go crawl into my hole now.
If this happens, there won't be a hole secluded enough for me to crawl into. The thought of it makes me depressed. I teared up and cried a bit when Jokinen missed last year.
