Agreed. And Shattenkirk is going to be a solid second pairing offensive defenseman for years to come.

Both teams get what they needed in this deal.

And EJ has really had a poor season, he probably needed a change of scenery.

Lets see if Chris can score 30 first before you call him a 40 guy. Shattenkirk Since Feb began has been one of Colorado's worst Dman. Teams are now taking space away from him, And he has not adjusted.

The picks just don't make sense. It is crazy that the Blues are the ones giving the first in this deal, regardless if it is conditional or not.

It's good for both teams.

Colorado needed to take a risk and try to acquire a #1 guy. EJ may or may not pan out like that but it had to be done at some point because their D for the most part is a mess.

St. Louis obviously did not want to wait for EJ to sort out his issues. In doing so they get a great young forward who can jump start their offense and make things happen. They also got a puck moving defenseman with wheels and a good shot. Shattenkirk also has more points than Johnson does this season in less games.

Both teams gave up two great assets, both teams got back two great assets. You have to give to get. If EJ was to go at any point I didn't necessarily expect the Blues to snag a player like Stewart in return. It reminds you that you have to give to get.

Holy hell. Seems like a good trade for both teams to me. If anyone lost the deal, id have to say it was the Avs who lost.

He has all the tools and proven production as well so I have little doubt he will. I think it's a good trade for both teams when you'd kill to have the assets on either side on our team. And I'd love to have EJ and Stewart.

No way the avs lose that deal. EJ is a proven Number 1 D man. His season is below his standard this year. But his first two years were number 1 years.

Both Teams get what they want I guess.

I don't think Stewart ever surpassed 30 goals in his career, even in the juniors. He's a good player, but he also played with some good offensive talent in Colorado as well. Plus he was getting benched by Sacco.

The picks are way wacky but other than that I like the deal for both teams, So the EJ rumors that I laughed out loud at were true. Sorry, just goes to show you.

He also scored 28 last season and 3 playoff goals. Why not ask Colorado fans what they think of Stewart? They'll probably tell you the same thing.

It is probably a pretty even deal if so many people are divided over it Man... I hate the implications for us. Everyone in the freakin' west is getting better! It was already close as-is >.< Ridiculous. I am talking about the future seasons as well.

This is what happens when exceed expectations then fail afterward.

Now from each team...Col reaallly needs a #1, and you don't get number ones without trading something of worth or the number 1 having question marks...in this case both. Not to mention Shattenkirk was a little redundant with Liles already there.

For STL it looks like they wanna give the keys to the defense to Pietro...making EJ "movable" if you can get something like Stewart....especially since EJ is still somewhat a question atm...I liken it to the way Kings fans felt about JJ last season.

O and the Blues are about as stacked as the Kings as far as prospects go (better forwards worse goalies but about even) so the first really isn't gonna hurt them if it was needed to get the deal done.

One last thought...that top6 for the Blues is gonna be a ***** for the central from now on...Stewart/Backes/Boyes/Oshie....are you kidding me...might help them avoid the injury bug in the future to now (then again Steward broke his hand in a fight this year to )

Why don't you ask Sacco why he benched Stewart?

If you name the NHL players that haven't been benched in their career, all of them are probably in the Hall of Fame. And lots of people in the Hall of Fame have been benched. Why does it matter? Why don't we look at where Sacco's team is right now and ask if he knows what to do with the players he has?

Do the Kings have any players who have never deserved to be benched?

Wow.

Trade deadline is basically just going to be people asking if Schenn is going to get traded.

What a gigantic trade.

I think the Blues win this. They get a great defenseman and a guy who is going to be a 70+ point power forward in the NHL. The Avalanche do get a #1 young defenseman, but he always gets injured and hasn't lived up to his hype. I would rank Jack Johnson over his Johnson counterpart nowadays since Jack is learning how to play defense.

Blues are still somewhat in the playoff hunt. They have games on hand for about everyone, so if they win their next two games, they'll be only like three points out.

Avalanche get a #1 Dman and possibly a 1st round pick.

Stewart wasn't doing well this year and has been benched, made him expendable since the Avalanche have PLENTY of firepower. They got their #1 Dman and have a #1 Center, just need to find a #1 Goalie.

Since November 4, When Chris cooled off and injury's started to take hold of Colorado.

4G 10A =14pts Minus 9

Shattenkirk since Feb 1 when the Western Conference teams started to play him tight.

0G 0A =0 PTS Minus 5

Both are young so they can snap out of it. But hardly World beaters atm.

Stewart also got injured. Missed 21 games and as we've seen with many of our guys out it takes them a bit to get back into their groove. That certainly has a lot to do with those totals. But he still has 30 points in 36 games.
