I believe we're in the market for a defenseman. I can also see us figuring heavily in discussions regarding some scoring line wingers, but don't necessarily see us making a deal there...

Poile is not done...

we have serious logjams at every position... not that that is a bad thing, but we need to start getting quality over quantity...

In addition, Smid is young and talented enough to be considered a built-in replacement for SOB next season.

I remember him being pretty gritty too. I wouldn't mind that, but what would it cost us?

I know the Oilers are a bad team ... still doesn't excuse him from being a turnover machine ... same goes with Klein

Nevermind what I said earlier. I just did some checking around. It seems he gets criticized for being too soft some times. It actually sounds like he is a clone of Kevin Klein.

Smid a PP player? I don't think he is a offensive guy. He's a good young defensive d-man but honestly I don't think he is a upgrade over anything we have right now. Unless Poile is looking to replace Sulzer with someone better defensively.

One fan on the trade board said he was soft, and everyone called that guy out for being out of his mind.

Smid's point totals are underwhelming, but the Oilers are the worst PP in the league. Now, ours isn't much better, but he'd immediately be an upgrade over both Bouillon and O'Brien in that regard, and he's better defensively than Sulzer as well.

Oilers fans seem to feel that he's a good complimentary defenseman that's being asked to do too much on a team with only one decent defensive d-man. Smid would be no higher than our fourth d-man, and he's absolutely an improvement over Sulzer and possibly even Cube in that role...and...as mentioned, he's young and still has a good deal of potential, IMO.
