I honestly think it could happen. I don't want him, but he's got one year left and it would cost us 2.7M... I don't like Souray, but for 2.7M and only a one year risk, I have to imagine someone is going to pick him up and... with us looking for that PP shot.

I hope not.

Awards:
I'd be surprised if we didn't put in a claim.

Would he make it to us though?

Sign me up.

$2.7 could be a bargain for any team, not entirely sure he even makes it to NYR

i would have rather given up a 1st rounder than possibly put a claim on souray.

After the scouting staff itself could see how horrendously bad Souray is now, I (hopefully) doubt it.

“You want to like him,” said a source familiar with the Rangers activities over the weekend. “But you can’t deny what your eyes are seeing.”

Rangers scouts dispatched to three Hershey Bears games over the weekend came away with serious concerns over Souray’s foot speed at the American League level, let alone how that pace would translate to the National Hockey League.

Too many speedsters were beating Souray at the AHL level for the Rangers to convince themselves that the shunned Edmonton Oilers defenceman could help them at the NHL level.

I haven't run the numbers, but I'm pretty sure that if we add him (even at $2.7MM) without dropping equivalent salary somewhere else, it takes us out of consideration for Richards next summer. One would think that would make Slats's decision for him.

Or maybe I should say that one would hope...

Yeah, no way you take a risk on an oft injured guy who has been unimpressive at the AHL level...who also has another year left on his deal, even if his hit is only 2.7M. I know the Rangers have coveted him for a while now...but after the Redden debacle I just can't see them ignoring all the warning signs and throwing caution to the wind here.

made of glass has no class take a pass

saw that on tsn and totally agree.

Not to mention, he apparently cant play for **** anymore even in the ahl. If the rangers take him i will be pissed. Plus 2.7 is a **** salary for a d-man that sucks.

If Sather claims Souray I will be pissed. He is old, slow and injury prone. If they wanted someone who just could help the powerplay Marc Andre Bergeron would of been a better and cheaper option.

yea getting Souray makes no sense. we can get someone better and cheaper. the only way i see Sather claiming him is to not give any assets. but even still i'd rather give assets than get this guy on re-entry waivers

What's the possibility of the scouting results being a smoke screen?

Back when he became a UFA after a MONSTER year in Montreal there were some who thought he was a lock for coming to NY. He was a mystery hold out during the summer and speculation was he was waiting for Sather to try to make the cap room for him to sign but it couldnt get done....

Slats could still make room by July 1st.... if he doesnt figure something out soon he'll have PLENTY of time to figure something out

Souray never had a monster year really. He is a shooter, but in other areas, he never been better then say a Girardi. Imagine someone starting at Girqrdis hights, then having a problematic personal life and a ton of injuries. There's were SS is today

I'm not opposed to it... He may not be the best defenseman, but he's got a bomb from the point and if he doesn't score, people can deflect the shot or bang home a rebound.

03-04: 17/35 points on the PP
05-06: 21/39
06-07: 48/64
07-08: 5/10
08-09: 23/53
09-10: 4/13

My concern is obviously the injury factor has he played only 37 games in 09-10 and 26 in 07-08 and also that he may be a liability defensively. Although, many people here want no part of Gilroy on our defense and MDZ hasn't looked the part either this year.

Staal-Girardi
Sauer-McD
Eminger-Souray
ex: MDZ, Gilroy, or bring up Kundratek, V-tank...

Is that the worst top 6 we could have? I know we need a jolt on our PP and maybe Souray could help us out there. A lot of teams have moved d-men and I don't want Sather to overpay for a guy because the market dried up. There's always Redden in CT, but I don't think anyone wants to see him back on the Rangers roster anytime soon....

That last year in Montreal he had 26 goals 38 assists...

Maybe more Frankenstein than Godzilla but those approach monster stats from the NY Rangers blueline

I'd rather have McCabe. I saw him a lot in Toronto and he has a great shot and is good on the PP. Best of all he's a UFA. Trade Gilroy for him.
