It's different in the NHL, whether you play the pass or play the shooter, the goalie is going to have to come up big, because either shooter on the 2-on-1 can bite you big time.
It's still gonna be a lot easier to get to a shot you're set for, as opposed to moving.

General rule of thumb on 2-on-1's is that the goaltender's responsibility is the man with the puck, and the defenseman covers the pass.

Right.

Ideally your d-man gives you a little help with the shooter too. Just enough to steer his path wide of the net, which makes it easier to play shot the whole way (as opposed to having to worry about dekes. It helps him block a pass to more of the offensive zone if he's closer the shooter too. That's ideally, of course. Ideally you stop it when he lets the pass through too. **** happens.

Which is why I don't understand why everyone is all over me on this. Yes, ideally you play the pass, but depending one who you're going against, that doesn't matter. We've seen players like Carter on a two on one get into this and even if you play the pass it doesn't do **** because he'll roof it short side. Same with Briere. In this case, it's Cole and Jokinen, you're ****ed regardless of who shoots it.

Pronger doesn't usually miss in those kind of situations.

I see what you're saying. I'm just think that given two shooters of equal ability, you give your goalie a better chance to bail you out when he gets a chance to play the same shooter the whole way. That would certainly be my preference in Bob's spot.

Look at Pronger turning to go find someone to punch in the head.

"Lavi wants us to smash heads. I'll go smash Skinner's."

I can see you still don't understand so i'll put it this way....

Box A has a 60% chance of having $100

Box B has a 40% chance of having $100

They both have a chance of having nothing, but do you choose B because of that? And if so.... you want in on our poker night?
