Redden on waivers?

Just wondering now with Souray on waivers if the Rangers are going to do the same thing with Redden. He has 30 points in 50 games in the AHL half the salary with two more years on his contract.

3.25 million for per year for 2 more seasons would that be worth it? I am not really sure if I would or not. But it would be some thing to think about.

I somewhat think Redden can still turn it arround and be somewhat worth 3.25 million a year. Once upon a time he was considered one of the best overall dman in the league.

Terrible and overpaid. I'd rather have Souray or call up Finger.

Just because we lost a d-man doesn't mean we should be willing to pick up any ol' sack-o-s**t off waivers. Doesn't even seem like Redden can hack it in the AHL now, let alone the NHL. He was a good defenseman for Ottawa back in the day, but.....yeah, no thanks.

People talk about Redden like he is the worst dman in the league. No he isn't worth 6.5 million but his game still isn't that bad for 3.25 million a year.

I think he could still revitalize his career to be worth 3.25 million he is putting up the numbers in the AHL. I don't think his skills have deminished that much I think it is more of a confidence issue. But he took the demotion to the AHL as a chalenge and his done well with it.

And if he doesn't? We already have a mish-mash of bad/questionable contracts on our defense. I wouldn't want to add to that. Do I think he could do alright with another team? Possibly, but it sure as hell won't be here.

Redden is not an NHL player anymore, let alone a 3.25 million dollar one.

Redden has averaged 35 points a season over 13 years. He's scored 10+ goals 5 times and broke 45 points 3 times. Its not his fault his contract is so shyte.

At 3.25 mil for this and next year I would definitely take a flyer on him. Whats the worst thing you can do? Send him down to the AHL- he's need there and done that.

Good scouting report, been taking in a lot of games in Hartford this year?

3.25 million? I think you better read the CBA again.

The only way I could see him playing on Leafs would be if he was put on unconditional waivers and released so that he could sign here for cheap. Not at 6.5 million and not even the fictional 3.25 million. And I don't think Rangers are in a hurry to spend over 13 million this instant just to release a guy.

I wouldn't take a chance on Redden. He has had off-ice issues that saw the demise of his NHL career. If you want to give a guy a chance like that once he's a free agent for an appropriate contract I'm all for that but otherwise stay away, stay far away.

It really, really is. The guy just can't compete at the NHL level. He's getting lapped on a regular basis in the AHL. He just can't keep up.

There's a chance he walks away from his contract after this season. He'd be forfeiting 3 years and $16.5 million. If that happens, someone will give him a look. And they'll find out that the guy just can't play anymore.

I'm far from a Wade Redden hater. I defended him for the longest time. He's a good soldier, and as others in this thread have noted, it's not his fault that the moronic Glen Sather gave him that ludicrous contract. That said, the guy is done. If he does decide to void his contract and become a UFA, his NHL career will still be over within the next two seasons.

Redden unlike Souray is NOT currently on waivers, so there really isn't much merit in a discussion about claiming him at present since he isn't available to claim.

We will close this until he does go on re-entry waivers and then the discussion can continue should that occur.

Closed temporarily.
