It's my understanding that he now lives in Tampa as "full-time" as any professional athlete can live full-time anywhere. He considers Tampa his home.

Is this really a thread about Steve Simmonds hearing Brad Richards shook his head once...

If Simmonds Berger or Spector aren't the worst reporters in the league..I pity whichever team has to listen to him..

He is about as connected to Brad Richards as I am and If you take anything he has to say is truthful.. you probably also consider an Eklund E1 rumor as legit as a Bob McKenzie confirmed tweet

Burke will throw the book at him but from the sound of things he's not interested. Well, if he doesn't come here I hope he stays in Dallas out west.

Edit: And yeah, I wouldn't trust the Sun. My Mom has worked there for almost 20 years, and over the last few they've been taking any cheap way to generate interest in their paper, particularly in sports. These guys have virtually no sources, especially outside of Toronto.

No Jeff Vinik did in his introduction after he bought the team. No internal cap, $$$ doesn't hinder this team. The guy is personally funding a complete makeover of the arena (if he doesn't get tax help from the county) for crying out loud.

Richards is resigning in Dallas or coming to Tampa.

If not those two things maybe the Rangers.

He's not looking for a big contract, already got his with Tampa.

Stamkos is gonna get Ovechkin money. If not from Tampa then gladly from someone else in an offer sheet.

Thats all well and good but some team isnt going to give Tampa the 3-4 first rounders that is tied up in his restricted free agent clause. Tampa has the upper hand and also this team can afford to give Stamkos 6-7 mil per year. Our owner right now is willing to spend to the cap. Richards and Stamkos can be signed without an issue. Also a little money left over to sign a defensemen or goalie if Roli retires.

Yzerman is not going to let it get to that point and Stamkos enjoys where he is.

Also to point out the fact that the no state tax in FL would make it more palatable for Richards to accept a lower contract value-wise, in addition for all the other reasons to return. The media made a big deal about Lebron leaving all that money on the table when he signed with Miami until it was pointed out about the lack of state tax and how that made it more of a wash.

Marty re-signed for a little less than he could of got, Kubina took less years and money to come back this year + alot of other players expressing their interest to play here (Gagne, Nabokov, even most recently Brewer..). I think Stammer knows he has it good here and will take a little less to re-sign to keep the team even more competitive. Doesn't hurt that your childhood hero is your GM either.

Richards already got his large payday but it also got him traded too. If he gets the option to come back for less I think he would to play with BFF Vinny again.

Fans here would eat it up, you still see plenty of Richards gear around the Forum on gamedays. He can even have his #19 back! (Sorry Moore.)

NYC is overrated. I can't see Richards leaving Dallas for NYC.

really? I'd give up 4 first round picks for one of the best goal scorers in the game in a heartbeat. he's worth as much.

Cause all of those overpaid players brag about how awesome it was to sell out and then get dealt or fail, who wouldn't want that for their career...

Stamkos will be re-signed long before any team, assuming there was one truly prepared to offer a max contract AND mortgage their future, even gets a chance to ponder an offer sheet.

I love two things in this thread.

1) The fans saying "Hes just mad at Burke! That's the only reason hes saying these mean lies! Richards is dying to play here you'll see!"

Yea, because we couldn't all just look at your guys post history and find you guys quoting him in the past about some sort of amazing block buster Burke was working out......

and 2) "Toronto has money and Richards wants to get paid, that puts Toronto at the top of the list." Yea, because no other team in the league has cap space right? Oh, maybe its because of the "everyone wants to play in Toronto" BS I've heard for years. That's obviously been proven by last year when you signed top FA.... oh wait, no. Lets try again, like the year before when you shocked the world by signing.... no? oh. I guess you guys haven't really signed a big name free agent in years. Komisarek? Yea. The Oilers signed Souray. Neither of which has worked out for either of us. So lets drop the whole center of the universe act ok?

Reading this thread is hysterical. When did everyone start taking what Steve Simmons has to say seriously?? Really...this guy talks out of his ass. Quite convenient for him to come out with an article like this after Burke rips him at the press conference. Simmons is a moron who writes for a paper who strives for sensationalism the Toronto Sun. What a joke.
