I'd have to think that Hagman is still serviceable despite his inconsistency. Not really a huge fan of his but I actually thought he was a tradeable asset, not waiver wire fodder.

I'm actually indifferent to whether he's claimed or not, as I think he's a decent player but he's playing on the 4th line right now.

yeah, and so can 90% of everyone else who posts on this site....especially Leafs fans.

It's a pretty common occurrence, and actually quite understandeable.....bagging on people for doing it....well that's just kinda sad.

.....I have a feeling your gonna get a lot of responses with the word 'Kessel' in it.

These are both really weird outcomes. I can't believe Souray cleared at that price and I really can't believe that Hagman wasn't worth anything before being dropped onto waivers.

Now for the next question... What possible reason would Toronto have for not claiming Hagman? They've got the cap space, they need the scoring help and he was a fit there before...

Also, does this mean that Feaster has a move incoming for the Flames, or is he just clearing space in preparation for the deadline?

Losing Hagman's salary allowed Burke to make a trade to acquire Kris Versteeg, who was then traded for a first and third. Bringing in Aulie and Phaneuf allowed Burke to trade Beauchemin and Kaberle, who brought in Gardiner, a fourth, Colborne and another first. Leafs won the Phaneuf trade because Kaberle was traded for Colborne and a first.

See? I can reach too. Admit it, Calgary made a terrible trade.

Ian White was involved in the Phaneuf deal and was swapped for Babchuk.

Versteeg went for Stalberg - ie. not part of the Phaneuf deal.

Really grasping there.

If Phaneuf was on the block NO TEAM would take or inquire about him at 6.5M per..So the trade looks good on Calgary..Money can be spent elsewhere...

No team wins every team they make, Burke is no exception to this rule.

However, I think the Phaneuf trade is now confirmed to be lopsided in the Leafs favour now, as Hagman at the time was the top piece headed west only to be on the scrap heap now.

Erixon, Brodie, Pelech, Negrin, etc, all made Aulie expendable for the Flames.

He may be the best part of the deal now, but Babchuk makes it all worth it

I still maintain he's not a baaaad player...just wasn't a good fit with the Flames. $3M was a good deal for what he brought to Toronto.

Unless Phaneuf ups his game in the very near future, I disagree. Cap hits are a major factor here.

Wait and see what Calgary does with the cap space from this move before making any conclusions.

Right and Kaberle is only worth a second round pick.

I love all these internet hockey GMs

Hagman hasnt been the same player since we traded him, but that doesnt mean that once he comes back he will go back to being a solid 20 goal scorer.

Fact is that with Lupul, Kulemin, Macarthur, Armstrong, we have little room for Hagman. Next year, we need to add a top line winger, so it makes little sense to bring in Hagman, when hes not a 1st liner.

This. Clear Hagman's 3M and the Flames have a better chance of holding onto guys like Tanguay and Glencross.

Sutter was a moron for including Aulie in the Phaneuf deal.

He is god like worker who doesn't need line chemistry to scoring. He was in a 30 goal pace last season (in Toronto!) before joining Flames.

I think that if a GM makes moves to validate old trades, then they are failing at their job. That said, I would keep Hagman, unless this is clearing space for a bigger deal.

OMG like trading two lottery picks for Phil Kessel!

There's a reason why they guy who signed this deal and made the Phaneuf trade is no longer the GM...
