We didn't trade for a couple of veteran UFA's to be, you know.

You take this deal no matter what the team injury status is.

Not only that but Shero actually got Dallas to throw in Niskanen.

I've been on the Neal bandwagon since he was drafted.

I'm going out to buy a player t-shirt of Neal right away. I'm dead serious too.

Are Neal and Niskanen playing tonight?

Either way, Ray Shero is BO$$. If we can get everyone healthy (which is the biggest "IF" of all time), this lineup doesn't look too bad.

This is unbelievable. It literally is unbelievable how bad this trade is for Dallas. Now.. how much does Neal make and how many years does he have left?

I think we should just put Matt Cooke and Neal on a line. Only two of them would be necessary to dominate. Even if they are both LW.

My hope is that Despres kicks down the door and takes a spot next year.

Next year:

Kunitz-Crosby-Neal
Jeffrey-Staal-Malkin
Cooke-Letestu-Kennedy
Adams-XXX-XXX

Martin-Letang
Orpik-Michalek
Despres-Engelland/Niskanen

That's a hell of a forward group.
I think you guys robbed the Stars in this trade. But how cap-compliant is that line-up?

Neal is exactly what this roster needed. Niskanen isn't very good at anything, but he had a pretty good rookie season and has decent tools, so perhaps a change of scenery will do him some good. He's pretty much just a bonus, as I think Neal for Goligoski is as fair as it gets.
Yeah, but he did it in Pittsburgh as a number 5 Dman and was part of a stellar D system.

He does not have Letang, orpik, martin, etc in Dallas and will have to play #2 or 3 minutes.

You still think he can be the same?

Watch them both get hurt in their first game as Pens.

Agreed on all counts.

We've been spoiled with PMDs to the point that we sometimes don't realize their value league-wide.

Not only does this address something we needed to address, but we got absolutely amazing value for Goligoski too, I think. I'm kind of disappointed to see Gogo on his way out, but I don't have a problem with this trade at all. Amazing work by Shero. If Niskanen bounces back too then it becomes unreal.

Love the deal for both sides. Goligoski could definitely blossom into a 60+ point defenseman. And Neal could pot 30+ goals with Crosby.

I feel kind of bad reacting the way I am, cause losing Gogo is going to hurt a bit. But we finally have a winger for years to come!!! Time to celebrate!!!!

I'm farily sure Neal is a LWer. I think the implications are stronger for Malkin at even strength.

There shouldn't be any problems - the cap is going up, Neal is a friendly hit that will be offset by the departure of UFAs.

I doubt they're playing tonight but they might. This trade though is really all about next year and beyond more than anything else. Shero is my Hero ™. Bears repeating in case any of the doubters were still doubting that their GM is freaking fantastic at what he does.

They only added about $2.6 million in the trade and on the Pens board we've done many projections for next year with a $4 million winger fitting in tightly but without question.

Well, I'll miss Gogo. He was really underrated. That said, Shero traded an expendable asset to fill a gaping hole. I'm really excited about Neal but I don't know much about Niskanen. Either way, it's a win.
