The only reason Florida would trade McCabe (who wants to stay) would be to get some value for him. Gilroy is an underachieving, overpaid borderline 6th D-man. He has absolutely zero value around the league. Why on Earth would Florida be interested in him???

good let them make the mistake. They seem to be trying to make the playoffs too., I know they have been great for a while now but is that really the smart thing to do?

Lou Lamoriello said the Devils have not put in a claim for Souray and will not put in a claim for him.

Rangers had one last roundtable on Souray, and decided to pass. Their new focus? Bryan McCabe in Florida.

I wonder if losing Gabby for maybe the season forces Sather to pick up S.S ?

His shot would be much needed on the point although all the reports I'm hearing is that he's worse than Redden right now.

There also is the trade deadline, now a week away. Oilers defenseman Sheldon Souray was available on re-entry waivers, but sources indicated Sunday that the Rangers passed on making a claim.

McKenzie Twitter: Souray has cleared waivers.

Ryan Rishaug of TSN and Larry Brooks also reported it on their twitters as well.

A lot of teams liked the idea of Souray in the boardroom, then they dispatched scouts to watch him, killed it. 3 goals and 13pts in 26gp

Really surprised the Ranger's passed---with Gaborik going down I thought the Ranger's would pick up Souray just for the PP.Look Souray can't be worst than Gilroy or MDZ(right now)as a 3rd pair D-man,plus if your worried about his salary next year with Gilroy and Eminger most likely gone the salary's even out. Then bring up V-Tank next year and you can go with--

Staal-Girardi
Sauer-Mcd
MDZ-Souray
V-Tank

Not a bad D corp. The Ranger's need to do something to lift this team and with Gabby going down as bad as the PP is Souray could have helped.

Maybe Sather is going to get McCabe but I for 1 would have rather kept the pick and spent the dollars(at half the price).

Souray certainly can be worse than MDZ or Gilroy, and he's been that way for quite a while now. Been saying it for years: A big shot is NOT going to fix our power play.

Having Souray in a Rangers jersey would've made me sick.

How can you say that this team PP is horrible--just watching the PP you can see that this team only looks to get the puck down low(mostly behind the net)and try to pass it to the middle.Having a big time shot from the would open up another option for the PP,Souray would have brought that element to this team.I'm not saying Souray is the difference but with Gabby out scoring on the PP can alone help which is something that has not happened all year.

They do need money to sign those guys but don't forget the other players that won't be coming back--aka Frolov(3),Gilroy(1.75),Eminger(1),Prospal(1.4),and maybe Feds(1).Yes we will need to replace some of those guys but I think that's where we will see more of the youth movement(hopefully).
