Kessel makes too much money. $5.4M for 39 points. If we have to give up that much we might as well give this offer someone else.

I guess if you remove Yip and Porter Avs would be willing to take on all that salary...

I think the Avs could be looking at moving some of their offensive talent for young but experienced defense and goaltending, then rebuilding the offense again through the draft. Their scouting excels at identifying offensive talent, and not so much defensive talent, so the strategy would make sense for them.

So if Toronto wanted Stastny they'd have to start with Schenn and add from there. There's no other way the Avs would even listen.

I agree, we wouldn't get him without Schenn. And Schenn isn't going anywhere so these two teams would not get a deal done. I could very well see Stastny moved for the right move, but that wont be with the Leafs.
