Weiss to TOR

What would FLA be looking for in return for weiss, if they are interested in moving him?

And is he a good fit into TO's top 6 centre role.

He's not moving. He's said he'll retire a panther if we let him. He has a NMC. We don't want anything Toronto fans have to offer.

Wouldn't want him, his price would be more than what were willing to give up.

Basically this. Whether Tallon is right for doing so is another debate, but they've decided that he's not going to be deadline bait for picks/prospects, and Toronto really isn't in a position to make a hockey trade for Stephen Weiss.

I would assume that if Weiss was willing to waive his nmc that we would want a guy like Colborne back in return+.

However, I don't see us trading Weiss/Weiss waiving his NMC.

Weiss would be a great fit for Toronto because of his good contract, age and the desperate need for help at center. Weiss wouldn't be the big 1st line center all of us Leafs fan dream about but he is a very good 2nd line calibar center that could form a 1a/1b scenario with Grabo next. His cap hit also leaves us lots of room to fill other needs like a bruising winger for the top 2 lines or a top 4 dman.

I'd imagine Florida would be looking for similar value to what it took for Boston to acquire Horton in the summer where a young roster player and high draft picks are included to help them in there rebuild.

My guess is it would be a deal something like this:

C-Mac
Philly 1st (25ish)
Boston 1st (25ish)

For

Weiss
Florida 2nd (35ish)

OR

Philly 1st (25ish)
Boston 1st (25ish)
Toronto 2nd (35ish)

For

Weiss

Weiss is one of the most overated players on HFBoards. His career high for points is 61 even though he plays huge minutes. He's 27 and isn't developing any more. In fact his number will probably be mid 50's this year.

50-60 point centers do not get multiple first round picks. FYI, Clarke McArthus is 24 and has more points than him this year.

Weiss should stay in Florida becuase any GM that pries him away will be sorry when he only gets a number 2 center but paid for a number one.

Except in the salary cap world Weiss is very valuable because he is a very good 2nd line center/low end 1st line center but is paid like a low end 2nd line center. That would leave lots of room for Burke to fit in someone like Laich or Markov via free agency.

Weiss may only get mid 50's in point but that would be his lowest total in the last 3 years. He had 61 and 60 the past two seasons. If he was passing to a guy like Kessel he could realistically hit 70-75 points.

C-Mac is having a career year playing with two linemates who are really clicking. There is a very good chance that he never performs at this level again and with Kessel, Kulemin ahead of him in the depth chart. Lupul not going anywhere because of his contract. C-Mac could be the odd man out in helping us acquire the center that the Leafs desperately need. The Leafs need an upgrade at center far more than they need a guy like C-Mac on the wing who can be replaced through unrestricted free agency because there are winger options available. At center there is almost no options besides Richards and Connolly. Laich is not a natural center and plays better on the wing.

Leafs desperately need a center for the top 2 lines to start next year and it is going to take a deal like the one above.

1st round picks are also not nearly as valuable this year because it is a bad draft.

Weiss is a good player.

But to be honest he's not so much of an impact player that Toronto would need to trade for him. At least, not that the price we'd likely have to pay.

He's a great 2nd line C on a good team. As of now, if Grabo can keep this up, we already have our 2nd line C. With the recent Kaberle trade, we have both Kadri and Colborne in the pipeline for the future.

Burkie is saying Colborne is close to being NHL ready, and you can bet your ass that when he's up here he's playing top 6 minutes.

I remember when Weiss was compared to Steve Yzerman in his draft year....tons of hype. As it stands he would be lucky to get a Yzerman skate in the mail.

Weiss isn't worth overpaying for. i'm leaning towards drafting players with those picks.. if our scouting staff is so great lets see what they can do with late 1sts.. and it's not like the Leafs could get much anyways due to the negative stigma attached to this draft.

Florida would be smart to shop him right up until the deadline and keep him if their GM can't get his price.

Combine the following quote with the fact he has a NMC, means doesnt matter what his value is, its not happening! Another Weiss thread that can close:
Quote:
"I just feel tired from talking about it. I'll stay here until my career's over if they let me," said Weiss, who leads the team with 37 points despite having just one assist over his last five games since injuring his hand againt the Devils on Feb 4

Weiss =/= Kessel.

Would love to add him, but not for that price.

CLOSE this thread Weiss is the most overated player in the NHL! He is 27, he is not getting any better. His career high is 61 points and he is on pace for 56 this year. Grabovski is younger and better than him and would we get 2 1sts and a 2nd for him. I DONT THINK SO

Do you people knocking Weiss watch him play, or are you just squarely looking at point totals? He's great defensively, good in the circle, and is a great character guy to guy along with those numbers.
