you know Jfried, if you really believe what you are saying, Why not trade either Schenn or Phaneuf, who actually have value for something the Leafs need and then Komisarek will actually have a position on your team and youd have a net improvement

There may be upside in acquiring a player like that and hoping he rediscovers his game, but whatever upside there is, is far outweighed by the likelihood that a player in that position will continue to suck and put the acquiring team in the very position you are trying to get out of

Why would any team willingly risk putting themselves in the position you so graphically describe? you might take that risk for a former superstar, who has hit hard times, but for a player like Komisarek?????? even at his best he wasnt all that good
That's actually exactly why the Islanders would trade for him-- they have to rely on taking guys who aren't working out with other teams in order to attract talent. A team would put themselves in the position of paying Komisarek $4.5m on the cap because they need a defenceman of his calibre and type, and that's the cost to acquire him..

The reason to not trade Schenn/Phaneuf is simple -- youth. Toronto is trying to build a longterm contender. Phaneuf is the captain, Schenn is our former 5th overall pick who has been rapidly developing a two way game. He has disproportionately more value to us because of his long term upside, whereas Komisarek is a player who's valued based on what he does now.

Zero interest in Komi.

Streit
AMac
Hammer
Eaton
Juice
Mottau

All under contract next season and Wishart and DeHann knocking on the door.

Pass.

but isles dont need komisarek specifically, and the only spot worth doing this to is the first line with tavares such as ryder if he is still available. but with parenteau resigned, thats not happening...

A quick look at their defence says they need a guy like Komisarek if they decide that they're actually going to try and make the playoffs next year.

They really don't.

If anything they need a puck mover.

Because outside of Streit, it's filled with young inexperienced players and over-the-hill-veterans who belong on a 3rd pair. That's not the kind of defence that gets you out of the Eastern conference basement.

AMac and Hamonic make experience irrelevant. They are our 2nd pair. The 3rd pair is where you say these players belong. We're just missing our Dman to play with Streit, and Komi IS NOT that guy.

Umm.... I'm not sure what makes you thinkk that. A team needs more than 1 veteran defenceman playing big minutes (especially when you're talking about the quality of team the Islanders have). Komisarek is the perfect guy to play with Streit allowing him the freedom to move the puck, or to pair with Hamonic while AMac plays with Streit.

Says who? If the kids are playing well, experience means nothing.

And play Eaton with Streit.

Streit-Eaton
AMac-Hamonic
Juice-Mottau
Dehann/Wishart

I'm fine with that blueline. Juice is a great Dman when hes not asked to play big minutes. To be a serious cup contender, Eaton does need to be replaced with a better player, but perhaps that is Wishart down the road or a UFA. We are still 2-3 years away from being possible contenders.
