Everyone that is still bashing Michael Del Zotto, did you see the 2 plays he made on the 2 on 1, and 3 on 1.
He missed a shot, oh that sucks, so did a lot of other people.
IF Del Zotto or Gilroy made the same play Sauer did on that 3rd period, he would be getting destroyed!
Both of the golden boys Sauer and McDonagh got burned big time at times tonight (multiple times) but you'd never even know it with Rangers fans. And what's funny is that both of them are actually older than MDZ but can do no wrong.
MDZ wasn't great, but he made some plays out there tonight and wasn't responsible for a goal against and we won the damn game, so give him a ****ing break.
Dude, Giguere in his prime was an absolute beast! And one of the best playoff performers of his era. Maybe not "elite" but as close as you can get to it.
Statistically? Because apparently we're supposed to "look at the statistics." And hardware.
The Good: The comeback, the effort, Zuccarello, Callahan
The bad: Some defensive breakdowns
The Redden: Losing Staal, and almost losing the game thanks to a really bad bounce, and an even worse faceoff spot after the bad bounce.
Also, can someone here please explain the icing rule. (sarcasm, I've only followed hockey for 30+ years) I do not understand why when the Rangers attempt a pass from behind the red line, and even if it gets deflected by an opponent, icing is called, yet when the opponents try the same play, icing might get called 10% of the time.

I'm a Sauer and McD enthusiast but I agree that tonight they weren't at the top of their game.
But, towards the end of the game -- with Staal out -- they were playing heavy minutes with little rest so I am a bit more forgiving for some breakdowns in the 3rd/OT.
As for MDZ or Gilroy, this is a recurring thing with both of them and Gilroy in particular was godawful again tonight.
He brings no offense, and is a liability on defense. What exactly is he good for?
Wolski had a great game. The reason this team is good in the shootout is because of Lundqvist. Most of the time we just need 1 shootout goal to win. I thought Del Zotto played well. Gilroy is awful please send him to hartford for good.
POTG: Henrik
Good: WW, Zuccs, Stepan
Bad: 1st time i thought Sauer had a bad game. Hank bailed his ass out more than a few times. EC continues to be useless. Also, i have no idea how Arty didn't bury the puck after that sick move to the net. Looked like he shot it into Ward's glove after he beat him.
Redden: Oddman rushes against our PP. Jesus.
I thought that we weren't going to make it to the playoffs because we lose all of our big games?
In that case it shouldn't matter.
Probably won't, but if they do manage to squeak in there are no shootouts to bail them out. Winning these games like this is not preparing them for the real season.

Wrong. It's Biron with his timely advices.
I swear I love that guy (Biron). So glad we signed him. He needs to be mic'd up more often.
Gilroy should be done as a Ranger, frankly. He was disgustingly bad. I hate picking on the kid because he really looked like he was turning it around, but man. He's shot.

I think the team should be more concerned with getting the points to even get into the playoffs in the first place, before we worry about winning all of our games in perfect playoff fashion.
You don't think winning means something to this team? I'd suggest going into the locker room and saying some of the stuff you say on here to them.
It was a charactered comeback with our star player and our top defenseman out.

Absolutely, I agree. They struggled during most of the game, but like you said at the end of the 3rd/ OT they really stepped up and it wasn't pretty but they (and MDZ and Girardi) got the job done.
The end of the OT was a cluster**** in general, and I'm prepared just to pretty much forget it.

It was a great win, for sure. I'm very happy about it.
I'm not at all happy about the state of the team in general, but this win is terrific.

Ehh... I myself have never been a big fan at looking solely at the statistics. Statistics are important but they have to be put in context. I would have said that Giguere was probably "elite" in his prime. He was a consistent top 5 / top 10 goalie in the NHL and probably the best goaltender in the playoffs. Won a Conn Smythe on the losing side, which is practically unheard of that is how special his performance was. Problem with him is that he lose his relevance over the last few years and he isn't that old. Between 01-02 and 07-08 he was fantastic. He hasn't aged too well, thus far, but then again he played pretty well for a sub-par Toronto team last year.
Lundqvist is definitely an elite goaltender. I never understand the haters. They look at a .909SV% from tonight but not the quality saves he made and when he made them. After Wolski, Lundqvist was the biggest difference maker. I think people can even make the argument that Lundqvist was player of the game.
