McKay was great, but he wasn't exactly a skill player. I think Tedenby looks good in #21.

Yikes, I apologize!!! Beer might have had something to do with it. I do remember McKay, though. Just that he's been retired a while and since then we haven't had anybody good where 21. I was more thinking of Salomonsson, Rheaume, etc... I admit a totally forgot McKay. oops.

I like Tedenby in 21, but knocking on McKay because he wasn't a skill player is like knocking on Elias for not Scott Stevensing people.

Me, I've always gone with #7........number my dad wore when he played, and I also am a Mickey Mantle fan, been wearing it/liking it since around age 9
Never really had a favorite number until I started playing soccer for my school team. Started out with 3, 30 the next year (Brodeur influence), then the next season we got new jerseys, but the numbers only went up to 23. I was one of the last to pick, and 3 was gone already, but I saw 19 and I just liked how it looked. And it's been that ever since.

I'm not knocking on him, I loved him for what he did for the Devils. But I figured "skill player" might be what Tretyak meant by "good".

Always wore a "4" or a "7" on my jersey. HS footbal, #47, HS hockey #47 and #7, soccer #17. Last few years in roller #4, then #17(before the Kovy trade silly geese).

Keep Yayo at 16, Tedenby at 21 (we've never really had a good #21), Zharkov at 18, and give Palmieri 22 (it sorta fits).
My sentiments exactly. But who can forget Steve Kelly.

New New Jersey Devil David Steckel will be wearing #25. No news on whether Arnott and him wear the same size.

Devilsrule.com used to have a "who wore that #" section on the main page. Don't know if it's still there or if Bill's kept it up to date, haven't been on that site in ages, but if you're so inclined, go find it.

That I dig. That looks good in my head.

KD88: I know of it of the Devilsrule link. This is just a place to talk jersey numbers so that other threads don't get jammed with it. No big whoop.

Cool... thought perhaps you were looking for the info.

About Palmieri, for some reason, I remember reading that once a player wore a number in a season, he had to continue wearing that number for that season. But without recalling specifics, I don't think that's been the case for the Devils? With all the call-ups/demotions, numbers seem like they've been switched up quite a bit. But I know I read it somewhere about the guy Calgary had wearing #66. Though the source may have gotten it wrong.

I like Yayo in 16. Tedenby in 21 looks right to me too. I want 2 to go someone competent as soon as possible. And Napalm and Fayne need to get real numbers.

If Fayne keeps up his play, I'd let him rock #2 next season, barring a Fraser exit.

Whichever d-man of the future we draft this year should get #2. In about 20 years we can have a nice 2,3,4 trend started in the rafters

I'd be fine with Fayne in 2. Urbom looked good in 29 earlier this season, but Salmela has it now.

Lou's lost it. He's not good anymore. Who cares what he says? He's a senile old man.

Fraser's contract expires and he'll more than likely be gone

We'll have White, Volchenkov, and Tallinder guaranteed as defensemen, with Fayne and Taormina likely, and Urbom, Greene, Corrente, Salmela, and a FA/Trade acquisition potentially

Every defensemen listed there is better then Fraser and there is just going to be no room for him

I'd like to also see Fayne in 2, and if not, 15

I think he wore that in junior with Windsor and it seemed to suit him pretty well.

Why does Lou hate giving out numbers over 30?

The only time Lou gives out 35+ is when he's giving someone like Rolston a contract.
