Who has been the acting captain while Cap'n Craig has been scratched? Or is that not how it works?

I think it'll be the same thing as Adam Mair last year. Waive him and see if anyone bites, if not we'll just retain him and he'll play a couple more games this year.

He's done. Nobody will touch him at that cap hit, even if it's a short period. Long, long shot would be Montreal for depth but I can't see it.

I'm I the only one who'd be willing to pay the 1.5 million to have another team claim him on re-entry?

e: 1.75

Is it a coincidence that Pegula said the shackles were off Regier yesterday and today Rivet is on waivers?

The my expectations for moves happening over the next 5 days just went up.

I'm sure Regier has been trying to find him a home for weeks and couldn't. So, the next best thing is waivers at half-price. Here's hoping someone sees some value at ~$450K. But, yes, I agree.

Ta,
AFAIK, this is the first time he's waived this year, right? So, anyone claiming him would be on hook for the WHOLE salary...

If the number is $450k, I could see someone grabbing Rivet.

Ah, scratch that then. He isn't going anywhere.

Not if he clears and is claimed on re-entry.

Ta,
right, but you didn't mention that in your post...

Ta,
That would mean he would be sent down and then called up again. I don't think we would send him to the AHL.

Right, unless no one claims him and the Sabres put him on re-entry.

If that's the case, his actual cost would be $432,790 to each team. His cap hit would be $865,591 to whoever claimed him.

why not? It's a new sheriff in town...and they need bodies, especially when we raid them for parts when we deal/waive ALL our USELESS UFA's

Meh. A sad ending to his Buffalo stint, but he's been mediocre, at best, for a year and a half now.

BTW, how awesome would it be if they claimed Kotalik? lol-worthy!

I guess it really is a new day. I was shocked to see this in TBN, and feel bad for the guy as a person but his best days as a player are way behind him now.

How has he been? Serviceable bottom-pairing guy? If so I'd love the NYR to claim him. Anything to get Gilroy out of the lineup.

No one on this team is "captain" material. True leader? Lead by example? Motivates the team on and off the ice?
That is my definition of a captain of an NHL team.

Maybe we're trading for a new captain

He came in with high expectations, and never once met them. I can say now that I truly feel he had minimal-to-no on-ice impact in the positive form. He deteriorated as the seasons went on - to the point of falling to 8th on the depth chart - and didn't hit anyone or play with any toughness like he was supposed to.

Thanks for seemingly stabilizing the lockerroom, though.

Interesting.

I wonder if he hadn't been named captain then he might have been more inclined to get the shoulder surgery (or whatever it was) in his first year here. He was still a good player when he was acquired, I don't think I've ever seen a player disintegrate so quickly and so completely as he did.
