Rangers and Stars have had preliminary Richards discussions
The Post has learned Nieuwendyk told Rangers GM Glen Sather on Tuesday that it would cost the Blueshirts three young studs off the roster, believed to be Marc Staal, Brandon Dubinsky and Derek Stepan, for the privilege of renting Brad Richards.
No way Richards goes for that much. I can't see Richards bringing more than Hossa did a couple of years ago
I may be overboard but I don't think the Rangers would take Crosby for that, let alone Richards. Those three, as Brooksie says, are essentially under quarantine as far as the trade market goes.
Nieuwendyk get burned in the James Neal trade. So now he's trying to make up for it by fleecing another GM? Puhleeeze. If Sather does that, he should retire immediately.
LOL Joe trades Neal for some mooseknuckle 3rd pairing guy, and now expects that? YOU are the one that gets fleeced Joe, not halfway competent GM's..What a window licker..
Why do you people get worked up over these things? This isn't something to be taken seriously. You think Nieuwy actually expects to get that in return. This is nothing but posturing in the press for the benefit of the fans and the GM's own reputation.
Nothing to get excited about. No reason to take something like this seriously.
You wouldn't trade Richards for Dubinsky straight up?
I'm gonna be honest here, I'm not sure I'd trade Dubinsky for a rented Richards either. I'd easily do it if I had a guarantee Richards would sign though.
I highly, highly doubt Nieuwendyk asked for all three of them. He might have asked for one of them(even that might not happen), but there's no way he seriously thinks he'd get all 3. That would be insane.
I'd ask for the same. Joe still wants to re-sign Richards, so trading him is not his top option. He knows he won't get Staal, Dubinsky, and Stepan, but at the same time he's not going to trade Richards for anything short of an overpayment.
Neal was trading a position of strength for a position of weakness. Richards is not.
If the Rangers trade "Marc Staal, Brandon Dubinsky and Derek Stepan", for Richards as a Rental I would piss on my season tix and mail them back to MSG attn : Mr Dolan. Not Sather, ...but Dolan. Becuase if a move like that went down it all about desperation to make the playoffs and the almighty dollar the playoff run would put in Dolans pocket. But...a deal like that 100% makes this team less of a contender this year, and gets rid of arguably the clubs three best assets.
