Not one of Poile's best decisions.

It was a low risk move though. Nothing really given up to get the guy other than a little cash.

I could see us going after Kotalik. His caphit is reasonable. 1-1.5mil? Can play any line, and has a heavy shot which could be used on the powerplay.

could also mean goc is healthier than we all think he is.

I don't see why people care so much about a guy who has scored what, 1 goal

Do you think Goc is going to be playing wing when he comes back? People care because he's a goalscorer, he's not big but he works hard unlike some other midgets we have on the team and before he got injured I thought he was starting to come along pretty good. Then he never got a chance after he came back from injury. Instead of asking why keep him ask why not? What did we have to lose by keeping him. Even if we weren't going to play him he would still be good depth.

agree...........so Poile must have a reason.......numbers, money, combination... he isn't one to throw away things.

This.
Svatos really didn't do much.
I don't get the wailing and rendong of garments over his waiver.

Because it's Vitaly Vishnevsky, all over again. Sometimes we acquire guys that, for whatever reason, Trotz just doesn't get into. Svatos may not have done much, but how much opportunity has he been given? He looked great when playing on a scoring line, seemed to be finding some chemistry with Legwand centering him, then he gets hurt...comes back...and all of a sudden he's playing 3 minutes on Jerred Smithson's wing.

It's not even about Svatos to me as what it represents. And if we're talking about production equaling deservedness of icetime...what has Sullivan done lately, aside from turn the puck over within 10 seconds of possessing it, every time he's in the offensive zone?

why would he play the wing? he goes to the third line centering dumont and wilson/sully. spaling goes back with trotz's wubby line-smithson, ward, spaling

But, he also has started working harder, tried to get stronger in the offseason and has been hustling a lot lately. He's not the kind of player (especially since he got rattled a few times) that is going to go all Pavel Bure and skate through the other team 3-4 times and score a highlight reel goal every other game, but he can still see the game, you can see it in his passes. I think that he might be the most mis-used player on our team right now. I realize that's not much of a news flash, but I still don't get all the people complaining about him.

Honestly, when Goc gets back, I'd like to see the G/SK/E line and then I'd put Fisher/Legwand/Dumont together for a couple of periods and let the bottom 6 hit their hearts out. I like the thought of Legwand on the wing with Fisher - that's 2 pretty fast guys with a guy that can see the ice pretty well.

I just think that we are going to HAVE to have 2 lines with some offensive creativity or we will continue to get crushed and will have virtually no chance to make, much less advance in the playoffs.

Oh, and Erat and Legwand must be on 2 separate lines. I don't know what to do with Sullivan at this point.
first: was that a pavel bure sighting!?

second: i agree with everything else

third: sully needs to ride the pine imo. he is a liability out there right now, but sadly i dont think the org. will do that to him

I agree, even though Dumont can't be waived. Svatos was looking like a bright spot to me. What is up your sleeve Poile? We need scoring and Svatos had some talent and you just let him go. The current twitter rumors better be true and AK46 better be heading on down right now.

Have to agree with most people in that what? I just don't get it unless it is to pickup somone else. IMO like other people feel he never got a good chance.

Definately would have him play rather than Sully. He can't even control the puck for more than .5 sec. anymore. Gives it up every time. Looks like he is playing scared.

I'm amazed at all these forwards that are a flash in the pan... Cheechoo, Svatos, Bernier, Zherdev, etc

I guess a lot can be said about quality linemates making a player look better than they really are?

1 goal in the span of 5 or so games he was given an opportunity, and plenty more chances and enough to be enthused.

He represented hope that maybe someone other than Sullivan or Dumont would get icetime.

Rivet now on re-entry waivers. Is $1.75M low enough for us to consider him?

Probably not, especially considering Bouillon should be back soon. But it's tempting. I like him, but haven't seen him play this year at all.

he's absolutely horrible. i'd rather continue playing Sulzer, and I'm not a Sulzer fan.

That probably factors into the equation but there is also deeper issues with these players:

Cheechoo- Injuries

Svatos- Injuries

Bernier- I think most of us remember him from our first two playoff series with San Jose. He was a promising young player just never really fulfilled his potential

Zherdev- Attitude and work ethic, not helping the Russian sterotype

cant imagine why Ottawa would claim Svatos unles they just need a cheap warm body for the rest of the year but you'd think they would bring up a prospect for that.

also, can OTT trade him now or does he have to go back through waivers first?
