I'm sure they would have traded him for a defensemen, and we can't exactly spare any of ours...
Ya, unless the trade was something around a guy like Sauve for Maxwell or something. I dunno if Maxwell really fits into our system well...though he's had a lot more AHL success then Schroeder or Hodgson.
Bernier could be an option if MG isn't having luck talking to other teams. I didn't mind Bernier's play as much in the playoffs last season and he would obviously only be brought in to cover 4th line duties. As it has already been mentioned however the price tag is likely too high.

Price tag too high def true. He would be an upgrade to Glass.
I'm going to offer the suggestion that we should never speak of Dave Nonis again unless it's in the form of a joke or as part of a riddle in the form "You know who sucks more then Dave Nonis?"
You could give some of the blame to Burke as well, there was no callups in the minors when injuries happen. He was in a desperate situation and acted accordingly. Nice to see Gillis get players like Tanev, L. Sweatt, and Sauve who were able to hold the fort while having injuries.
Weinrich wasn't acquired a 2nd round pick--but that deadline was horrendous(2005/2006 season)
We got:
D Eric Weinrich for a 3rd Round Pick in 2006 + D Tomas Mojzis
D Keith Carney for a 2nd Round Pick in 2006 + D Brett Skinner
D Sean Brown for a 4th Round Pick in 2006
G Mika Noronen for a 2nd Round Pick in 2006

Ouch...
ROFL yeah and I remember CDC and HFBoards if I'm not mistaken saying thanks Burke for the trade, we're back in the hunt motto..all crumbling down the tube when we had to rely on Alex Auld down the stretch, the backups were horrible as well, the locker room was "divided", the defense was on trauma ward, the top line was AWOL..
^The only three who seemed to come to play each night were the Twins and Carter...but Crow would staple their butts to the bench and ride the WCE when the game was on the line.

If the Canucks win the cup in the next few years Nonis will go down as a legend in Vancouver. The guy that somehow brought in the best defenseman and goaltender in the franchises 40 year history, all in a tiny 3 year window.
The following draft also was in Vancouver and because of those trades, Nonis had only the first rounder in hometown draft. Just absolutely horrible management and assessment of the team, which turned out to be a costly mistake.

I think Weinrich and Brown rank up their with my 'worst Canucks' despite the short time they spent here. Carney was somewhat serviceable, but still not a very good player.
