I bet a lot of DL bashers are bummed we didn't get Stillman. They would have had a lot of fun with that one.

This is the best news in my life since I didn't switch my car insurance to Geico

I feel that Dean Lombardi is really going after Hemsky or Penner or Both without trading Schenn/Johnson. Its probably just a game of cat and mouse at this point with the Oilers trying to drive the price of those two up.

Something has to give.

Interest in Clarke MacArthur intensifies. Could the return exceed what the Leafs received for Versteeg? Tor still keen on re-signing him.
I believe at this point MacArthur would be the best option for the Kings if they are going to give up anything of significance to upgrade their top six.

Not sure if this was posted in the last thread, sorry if it was:

I hope we do nothing, except trade Peter Harrold or Davis Drewiske for picks.

Is MacArthur really an upgrade to the top six?

I wouldn't do much of anything this trade deadline. I just don't think anyone available is good enough to sell the farm for. And the guys we've been rumored to be in the mix for aren't available and will cost more than they're probably worth.

I mean if you can add a Booth or Hemsky and keep Schenn, Toffoli and Forbort, then by all means, make the deal, I just don't see it happening.

I like having 8 d-men personally, particularly since those two can fill different roles.

DL has never stood still at the deadline. I'd be really surprised if he does nothing.

How would you guys feel about if we aquired Weiss? I don't watch much of Florida. How good is he? What's his ceiling? Would he fit our plans longterm? And what would he cost us in your opinion. Thx.

So DL has indicated that he isn't going to trade top players/prospects, so where is the cut-off. Who are our best DL-approved trade-able assets? I would have to think one or more of our defensive prospects should be trade-able just based upon depth. Or does DL plan on having 12 defensemen on the Kings roster in the near future?
Forbort, Hickey, Voynov, Teubert, Deslauriers, Martinez, Muzzin, Campbell, Drewiske. The stock on some of these guys is still high, and maybe in the case of Martinez, is at the highest that it will ever be. We have some very trade-able assets that appear to be in danger of just dying on the vine and we are still lacking the scoring threat that we need on the LW.

If it's picks and prospects going for MacArthur then he'd be an addition rather than an upgrade, but yeah, looking at the numbers he'd be 3rd on the team in scoring.

Martinez has proven fairly capable of filling in when he needs to so that kind of makes Drewiske a bit expendable.

Personally, I think the move to suddenly insert Drewiske into the lineup is to showcase his abilities, and for the most part, he did have a pretty good performance in the Ducks game.

A decent bottom 4 veteran defenceman, as insurance in case one of regulars gets injured would be nice.

I would love to have MacArthur. 26 year old (end of the season) RFA means we're sure to have a good shot at locking him up longer than just to his UFA years, it would definitely be worth it.

I understand the logic of thinking that, but for the Kings to do that when they're battling for the playoffs seems doubtful to me. Do you risk losing two (or more) points in the hope that Drewiske goes from a 5th rounder to a 3rd rounder? I don't think so.

  1. Doughty
  2. Johnson
  3. Mitchell
  4. Scuderi
  5. Greene
  6. Martinez
  7. Harrold
  8. Drewiske
  9. Voynoy
  10. Muzzin
  11. Hickey

LA has at least 11 NHL-ready defensemen.

If it's holding up a deal because the guy hasn't played for a while....... yeah you do it.

Besides , what if someone gets hurt and DD needs to step in and play a game or 6?
Better to have him less rusty .

Not really interested in that. He'd be a decent option, provided Hemsky, Penner, Booth, Weiss, etc. are overpriced. However, I've watched the Leafs a bit this year and I'm not really convinced this is a breakout year so much as an aberration. Maybe good for a playoff run, but longterm lock-up material?

I was thinking a three or four year deal, but I guess we'd actually have to get him and see what he did for us first.
