The trade would 110% have to make the Leafs better. (i.e. propel them into the playoffs)

Besides nobody really knows what those crop is like until they play in the NHL.

The Leafs had 9 picks in the 2008 draft and it looks like 8 busts and 1 high quality player(Schenn) from the draft. Drafts don't always work out.

Obviously he would get a bigger return than Versteeg.

This guy is ridiculously under rated in other areas of his game.

They had two picks in the top 90 (one in the top 5). That isn't very good at all.

Does Dreger have a love affair with the Leafs or does he just know that it gets him a lot of attention?

Burke might as well pull the trigger since he's in rebuild mode now.

Sure the Leafs have a lot of late 1st round picks but the draft is suppose to be one of the weakest in recent memory. Dont start planning the parade just yet I woudnt be surprise one bit if Burke tries to move up at the draft...I dont see the leafs picking at 25+ two times.

I'd rather have Versteeg. He can kill penalties and play on the PP. MacArthur is solid, but nothing spectacular in my eyes. Slight slight edge to Versteeg.

Is Dreger on the payroll?

Everyone knows he's a 3rd liner at best on most good teams.

I'd assume it stems from the fact he works in toronto and that Dave Nonis(leafs assistant GM) is his cousin.

His brother-in-law is Dave Nonis (Assistant GM). Hence all the Leaf info.

What may make him very attractive is his grit and low cap hit 1.1...therby a higher value than he is worth other than the playoff run.

Agreed, I think Burke is just using the media to aid in
negotiations with MacArthur. Mac has made it clear that he'd like to stay in Toronto, burke is throwing out a phony rumor...to make Mac sweat a little and maybe accept a lower price in order to stay.

Eerily similar to what happened with Dominic Moore. Breakout year, contract year, unproven, similar price, and Macarthur's agent probably sees this.

you didnt hear?!?

TMac went to the Leafs
CMac went to the Sharks
and TMac ex head coach of San Jose went to Houston so they could still keep the nick name, it has not been determined if he will be coaching or schooling them boys out on the court
I gotta say a 1st and 2nd for MacArthur is steep over payment though

That would be a TERRIBLE trade for whoever picked him up. He would struggle mightily on any other team.

I cannot for the life of me understand why Burke isn't talking a multi-year contract with him.
He is talking about a multi-year contract. This is only popping up if MacArthur decides to overprice himself on contract talks which in case Burke may deal him, although that doesn't seem to be the case as reportedly, Mac is asking for 3 million x 3 which is fair and with negotiations, you'll probably expect that number to be 2.7-2.9

Burke should keep Mac unless he gets a ridiculous offer (not something like 1st and 2nd because we have enough picks) but if someone is offering a very solid prospect then you consider but at this point, I think he stays.

Mac does not get traded for picks unless for some retarded reason it's a top 3 (lol)

IF he gets moved it will have to be in a package for a serious impact player. Not based on value but based on Toronto's needs
