As for the game, a big thanks to the Wilds coach...completely unnecessary to pull the goalie before Kopi's goal...there was over a min left in the game, wait till you have possession then pull him, I mean they were on a PP.
The PP itself was half stupid by Smyth half bad luck, if you look at it the way Smyths stick corkscrewed the Wild player(Madden I think), when he trys to pass it, its the force of his stick that forces Smyths to trip him.
Thought WM had a off game, him and Zues caught napping on the third goal. And WM had a chance to clear the puck and messed around with it before DD was forced to take a penalty.
Simmonds best game of the season, without the goals. Was pretty dominate in the cycle and wasn't making any bad decisions.
Was nice having a 4th line that sustained pressure for few shifts.
Didn't like the 3rd line at all....
Finally was it me or was JJ benched for the last ~5 mins and Skuds was with Greene and DD/WM?
I don't care what some people say, I think Kopi has become a very good two way player. He's come a looong way and at +21 is just freakin awesome! He's really worked hard doing the right things. There's still tons of room to improve on but very excited this kid has become a pretty good two way player.
Agree; there are only 4 Vancouver forwards and one from Boston that are in front of him in +/- stats. I guess the "what have you done for me lately" crowd is not seeing that.
This game shouldn't have been as close as it was. JJ, Stoll, and Kopi all rang shots off the post. We spent significantly more time in their zone and had better opportunities.
Basically the Kings have been giving Minny free points all season, and I thought Smyth had done it again. Remember the game where Quick couldn't handle the puck was vs Minny but still the Kings forced overtime until DD decided to take a bad penalty. Then last time we played in Minn Bernier pitched a shutout and still lost...
Maybe Simmonds has heard the rumors, but he was on for sure.
The offense, FROM CARRYING THE PUCK IN, seems to be present, but not nearly so much from the dump-in. After last night and the sucks game, Does that need to be explained to any of you now?
Brown, while still fumbling pucks away at times, came to play, AND IT SHOWED.
That is the kind of game a CAPTAIN needs to play every night when he is not scoring.
Anze could take a lesson from that game as to what is necessary to get to the front of the net.
LEWIS was outstanding as well.
Is it it me or do Lewis Ritchie and Stoll just always have crazy legs out there? Even Poniboy looked like he had jump last night.
How many of you didnt even get excited when it looked like handzus might get a breakaway? I leaned over and said to my buddy "sit down, he'll get caught by the blueline." and he did!
Love the Brownie pass. Love the Doughty goal, jump stumble and everything else
Didn't get to post last night, as I had to watch it on DVR late. HUGE HUGE HUGE win! So great to have the boys back at Staples. Simmonds was a beast, the top line looked great and Doughty had a great game, too. Lewis and our 4th line had some amazing chances and almost scored several times. I'd say Stoll had one of his better games this year, as well. Bernier made the saves when needed (that first goal was bizarre) and it was great to see him get the win. Brown actually played great too!
My only complaint was Zus and Smyth. Man they were slow last night. WTF on that end of game penalty too! Oy.
Bernier's had a .919 or better save percentage in his last six starts.
I believe his stats are actually better than Quick in their last 6 starts respectively. Not that Quick has been bad at all, but just a fact that should be looked at around here. But naturally, it will go unnoticed.
