He should get 5.5-6 a year over a 4-5 year deal on the open market. I don't know if Jim Rutherford would be willing to pay that. We'll all know on July 1st.

He has said multiple times that he wants to stay. 3-5 years/4,75M-5,25M$ if he stays in Carolina, that's my guess. In open market he could get nearly 6M but it'd be too much for him, really. But well, open market is an open market and there aren't many Pitkänen-caliber UFA's this year.

You really see him taking a $1 mil per year hit to stay in Carolina? I don't. I also don't think his open-market value is $6, either. I think the high end of your Carolina price is his market value, and will get that (4 years, $20 mil) both from the Hurricanes and from any other team bidding for him.

If he hits the open market, he gets 7 million from the Rangers IF they miss out on Brad Richards.

Hopefully, he resigns for 5 yrs/25 million.

He hates pressure cooker markets.

He likes the area.

He likes the anonymity.

His Best Friends Forever Jussi Jokinen and Tuomo Ruutu play here.

So there is a moderate chance that he will take a pay cut.

I personally hope he stays way the hell away from the Rangers, for any reason, regardless if they get Richards or not.

The only thing most other NHL franchises can't offer is Juice and Ruutu. Phoenix, Atlanta, Nashville, Tampa, Florida, Dallas, and any number of other southern franchises can give him both anonymity and a nice area. I don't think his value is $6 mil, which is my main beef, not so much that he won't take a 20% pay-cut to stay in Raleigh. I just have his value both to the Canes and anyone else interested at around $5 mil.

I totally agree, to the point that he should only get 5 mil at the max from us, no more, no less.

Anything more for what he brings is just overpayment for the sake of getting him out of Carolina, to which I will admit his value MIGHT increase to $6 mil for an extraordinarily desperate GM with a hard-on. I just don't see any sane GM going over 5, and if he demands more, the Canes would be stupid to keep him.

That's right about what he should get. But god knows the kind of stupidity that happens on July 1st. All it took was one GM to make another dman worth 5 million per in Campbell a 7 million per dman

That's exactly what I meant to say. Not that he deserves 6M per year but that with little competition, someone might throw in one of those facepalm-contracts. And yes, sometimes players take paycuts. Selänne did so for many years just to play with the team he liked the most and so on...

You guys realize that Campbell got 7 and Bouwmeester 6.5 right?

I agree with the Rangers fan, he would get offers > 6M on the open market.

That. His price is 5M, but on the open market, it could easily climb up to 7M.
