Who's salary do you move to bring in Neil and his 2 million cap hit though?

It's interesting that Valk thinks the Canucks will trade for a winger and a centerman.

I think we could trade Raymond, move Hansen on to the 2nd line, add Chris Neil to the third line and aquire Paul Gaustad for the 4th line center.

Just some thoughts.

P.S - If Gillis could work the numbers.

you *could* do Raymond for Neil + Z. Smith/J. Winchester and it would be just about a push salary wise ($2.55m vs $2.583m/$2.750m). if cap wasn't an issue, Neil would be a great fit on our 4th line. and a deal like this adds another natural C in the top 13 forwards, which imo is vital.

leaves a hole in the top 6, no doubt. But there's always going to be a hole somewhere in the cap era. When you're one of the top 3 scoring teams in the league, with one of the most potent PPs, and a 2C that can provide offense on his own, maybe it's better having the hole on the second line. bigger question would be who takes Raymond's PK minutes?

except, I'm thinking Hodgson isn't going to cut it. for one thing, I agree with what the teenie meenie ginger said during intermission, that only one rookie max plays on the bottom line in the playoffs. If these last three games are being used as a mini tryout, have to say advantage Oreo so far. so if a deal is going to be made, a C seems the bigger need.

It defeats the purpose in Rome's case because he isn't an NHL player so is it really ''depth''. And I wouldn't dream of moving Raymond for Neil, his value is way above that.

I agree with this. It won't happen but Gillis would have to move Raymond for some assets like picks/prospects, then trade a 2nd or whatever to get Neil. That way you get fair value for Raymond and open up the cap space for Neil.

Get even more young assets to help us stay deep in the future and a proven playoff warrior but open up a hole in the top 6 that would have to be filled by Hansen or Tambellini which are fine short term options but over 2 months of playoffs against the best teams in the league we probably want a better 2nd line.

And there's the character issue and Raymond is a good kid so I doubt he's moved given what Gillis has said since he got here. Although, I haven't been impressed with Raymond in the playoffs.

I am and I am posting here because I like you guys more than the Pens fans. heh

Also, I am a Canucks fans because of the Moose. Just shedding light on my thoughts concerning my other favorite team.

Hey I grew up watching Lemieux, Francis, and Murphy. I am entitled to like more than one team. Damn Moose... made me a Canucks fan.

Any chance Mike Rupp could be moved?

Hahaha guy just called into the TEAM 1040 and suggested we trade a pick or something for Chris Phillips and then trade Bieksa for a 4th line forward.

I love Vancouver.

O... He's the guy with all the moose updates
you're definitely welcome here

The pens have so much injuries, there's no way they dump roster players
And Hal 9000, why would the Sabres trade away the Goose. Unless you want them to drop out of playoff race and let the Leafs get in

Don't think you want to be trading with someone you'd probably be facing in the first round

Rome's going nowhere...in fact, I'd bet money that none of our defensemen(apart from Sweatt to Manitoba once he's recovered from his foot injury) are going anywhere, especially after the run of injuries we've just had.

Right now according to capgeek, we can add $635,001 in annual salary. We are carrying 13 forwards, so if we sent down say, Hodgson, to Manitoba(his cap hit being $1.666,666), so if he were demoted would that leave us $2,301,667 in cap space? Or am I missing something?

And we'd have more if Sweatt hadn't gotten injured up here...dammit.

If we're not currently deferring Hodgson's bonuses, I'll eat my hat.

if Boynton ever drops to us. we should go for it and re-unite him w/ Ballard

that was a good combo

Excluding his bonuses, his contract is $850,000 this year. So that would allow us $1,485,001 in cap space to acquire a player should he be demoted(if we don't move out any salary).

If AV doesn't play the 4th line much in a relatively meaningless regular season game, we can't expect them to get much ice-time in the playoffs. So do we still need a 4th line centre? IMO, yes and no.

What we need is a versatile forward, one who can play centre, kill penalties, and take a roster spot on the top 9 in case of injury (possible), poor play (likely), defensive situations (likely again). Someone who can contribute offensively.

Thus, trading for a centre who is strictly a 4th line one (like Konopka or other low scoring types) with little ability to take a top 9 roster spot, doesn't do much for us.

That's why a Marty Reasoner is appealing. But there are others.

On another topic, has anyone else had the same experience as I have with these buffets? That if you go early there is lots of selection but if you go late, a lot of stuff has run out?

^I think Hodgson has the capability of doing all those things mentioned. The downside with him is A) He is extremely inexperienced, and B) The lack of ice-time could be detrimental to his development.

A guy like Reasoner, while ideal, doesn't leave us with much cap flexibility down the stretch if we run into injury. A guy with a cap hit like Konopka or Pelley(both of whom spend plenty of time on the PK and average a good amount of TOI with their respective teams) I think would fit the mould much better.

That also leaves us the option of bringing Hodgson back up for playoffs as a "back up" per se, should the fourth line C be struggling at that time.
