Per Flyers GM Paul Holmgren... Defenseman Erik Gustafsson has been recalled and will join the team in Ottawa this afternoon.

So, now that Erik Gustafsson has been re-called, is Chris Pronger's injury worse than we were told last night?

Updates - should Flyers recalling Erik Gustafsson set off alarms about Chris Pronger?

So calling up Gustafsson could just be insurance, but here’s what general manager Paul Holmgren had to say about his defensive corps situation on Wednesday:

“Why would we call up somebody that’s playing down there to sit here? So we’re not gonna go through that.”

Gustafsson recalled

re: various twitters (Frank S being one)

Maybe Pronger's injury is worse than expected?

Probably having issues handling the stick. Could be precautionary as he is scheduled to travel with the team.

As excited as I am to see some of Gustafsson, I sure hope it isn't because Pronger is out.

The Flyers are in Ottawa on Saturday, so maybe they are thinking of sitting Pronger for an extra day. Maybe OD's knee flared up.
Or it could be Holmgren just wanting to use the rest of his cap space

The only reason there is paranoia, is because Homer stated he wouldnt call anyone up if 6 players were fine to play. He then calls up Gus.

I wouldnt be surprised if they sit Pronger tomorrow.

Yesterday confirmed Bartulis will be out for the rest of the season.

Today they call up Gustafsson.

Not surprising, there is your answer. Chill everyone.

What about Danny Syvert? If we're worried about Gustafsson just sitting in the press box and getting no ice time at all during his recall, should we have just recalled Syvret instead?

Pronger has some swelling. Questionable for tomorrow.

Syvret has to go through waivers.

Subject to re-entry waivers, I think.

Not panicking about Pronger just yet. I think it could be Bartulis related. If Pronger does miss some games though it isn't the end of the world. First place. Good depth. Provide some rest and not risk further injury. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

I'm excited that he might get his chance, but not so excited at the implications for Pronger/Don O'Seanell. Still assuming Pronger's injury isn't too bad though.

Good. Keep him out of the lineup.

We shouldn't need him for Ottawa.

Healthy Pronger trumps every other priority through the rest of the season, and I'm not kidding in the slightest.

Syvret can come up, but only for like 10 days or whatever, and then he's subject to waivers on the way down. Unless the rules are different after he came up already.

No we shouldn't - but we will need a FULL effort and a killer mentality the rest of the way - The Isles shouldn't have been in the game like they were - 3 goals and we sit back and watch....

If there is a positive, it's the schedule. No games next week until Thursday.

Look for Gustafsson to replace Pronger on Sat. Boosh will start vs. OTT.
Sam Car

Dont know how I feel with Gustafsson playing with Carle...

Gotta be

Timonen-Coburn
Meszaros-Carle
O'Donnell-Gustafsson

I actually would like to see Timonen with Gustafsson again, but I dont know if that will happen

An earlier update from what was speculated earlier...

http://www.csnphilly.com/02/25/11/Pr...743&feedID=695

Quote:
“His hand is a little bit swollen,” general manager Paul Holmgren said. “We did recall Gustafsson, so he’ll join the team in Ottawa. Whether Chris can play or not is too soon to tell. We’ll have a better idea tomorrow.”

Pronger missed Friday’s practice. He was to be seen by physicians for a follow-up Friday, but Holmgren didn’t believe an MRI would be necessary. X-rays taken on Thursday night were negative. His injury occurred in the final six minutes of regulation.

“It’s just swollen; he had trouble gripping his stick today,” Holmgren said.

Pronger would play if this was a playoff game. Their just giving him a break since we have four days off after our game against Ottawa.
